This position reports to the Director of Space Vehicle Engineering.

What You'll Do: - This position is approximately 45% functional management, 55% technical/project management working directly on programs, IRADs, etc.
- Lead and manage the team of Space Communications Engineers.
- Provide functional management for the Space Communications team, including employee recognition, performance appraisals, hiring, and staffing.
- Provide career growth and development opportunities for employees.
- Mentor less experienced engineers on the team and help foster mentor/mentee relationships amongst the team.
- Collaborate with the other subsystem leads within the Space Vehicle Engineering department and with other engineering disciplines.
- Grow the Space Communications Engineering capabilities and capacity to achieve the goals of the business.
- Provide direction to the team in the advancement of the development process and the tools used by the team for critical analyses.
- Craft the strategy on how to meet future mission opportunities including technology roadmap development.
- Become the primary point of contact for new programs and proposals under early development, estimating rough order of magnitude cost and schedules for the Space Communications subsystem.
- Work daily with the larger Space Communications team on subcontractor procurements.
- Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Prepare and manage hardware definition and interfaces.
- Extensive technical writing: proposal development, contractual elements, procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, analysis support and description documents.
- Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
- Take ownership and responsibility for the success of our RF and Optical Communication subsystems.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Short-Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
Required Skills and Education- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI Polygraph.

Preferred Skills and Education- 10 or more years of direct experience in spacecraft communications design and/or test is preferred.
- An advanced degree is preferred.
