Location: Forney, TXThe Opportunity:As the Forney Operations Manager, you will oversee the operations of our coating plant, ensuring safe and efficient production and adherence to quality standards. You will be responsible for managing a team of production staff, implementing process improvements, and maintaining a safe working environment.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:Key Responsibilities:1. Operations Management:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the plant to meet production goals and KPI's.
- Monitor production schedules and adjust workflow to optimize productivity.
2. Quality Assurance:
- Implement quality control measures to maintain product quality and consistency.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement.
- Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions
3. Team Leadership:
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of production staff, including training and performance management.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and accountability.
4. Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Implement new technologies or methodologies to enhance production capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on equipment upgrades and maintenance schedules.
5. Budget and Cost Control:
- Manage operational expenses within budgetary constraints.
- Monitor material usage and waste to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.
6. Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare regular reports on production metrics, quality performance, and operational efficiencies.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, inventory levels, and equipment maintenance.
What you need to succeed:Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience (5 years) in a manufacturing or production management role,
preferably in coating or similar industries
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Solid understanding of ISO quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
- Experience with continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, 5S).
- In-depth knowledge of extrusion coating processes, equipment, and materials.
