Job DescriptionBAE Systems is hiring an Electrical Engineering Manager for our Maple Grove, MN facility. The Electrical Engineering Manager is a functional manager and budget owner who will lead our electrical engineering capability supporting long-range weapon programs, including labs, people, processes, and infrastructure. We operate on a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off) and utilize a hybrid approach that balances on-site collaboration and onboarding support with the flexibility of remote work.
The Electrical Engineering Section Manager will:
- Develop and implement a practical and affordable approach to incrementally modernizing lethality systems including primary and secondary armament, fire control systems, and ammunition handling systems including electrical component baselines across gun platforms.
- Research and adapt product line architectures and designs to improve the affordability and reliability of systems within our product lines.
- Collaborate with other Electrical, Software, and Controls Engineering Functional Managers and the Lethality Mechanical Functional Managers to establish an objective product architecture.
The Electrical Engineering Section Manager additionally:
- Ensures engineering staff has the technical competencies for current and future needs and supports their career development.
- Leads a team of more than 20 Electrical Engineers and Technicians.
- Ensures sufficient program support and efficient utilization of staff.
- Maintains and grows lab capabilities for the Electrical, Software, and Controls organization, including collaboration across multiple labs.
- Ensures the effectiveness and relevance of functional processes keeping them integrated and standardized where possible.
- Builds and maintains functional Engineering Estimating Tables (EET), Cost Estimating Relationships (CERs) to aid in the efficient construction of accurate, repeatable, and defendable functional bids and estimates.
- Ensures adequate and affordable engineering design / analysis tools and services.
- Identifies capital and functional infrastructure needs.
- Provides technical expertise to programs / projects, supporting bids, proposals, and internal research and development planning.
- Manage training strategy and activities for department.
- This role requires regular presence in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. The incumbent must be able to access and safely navigate production areas which may include climbing, kneeling, stooping, and working in confined spaces. Must also be able to comply with all requirements including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy.
Required Skills and Education- Typically a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years work experience.
- Experience designing and developing complex electrical systems.
- Experience in managing electrical engineering and prototyping lab capabilities.
- 5 or more years of electrical engineering supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of industry standards including IEEE, SAE, MIL-STD, and IPC.
Preferred Skills and Education- Experience in integrating fire control systems and the development and integration of weapon movement and stabilization systems.
- Experience in the development and integration of ammunition handling / loading systems including autoloaders and large caliber rammer systems.
- Expertise in design and integration of high voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of Earned Value and Control Account Manager practices.
