Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care Required

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children's Mercy Kansas City is the premier high-volume pediatric heart program in the Midwest. Our focused, interdisciplinary care of children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease brings to bear the expertise of board-certified pediatric cardiologists, congenital cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists, anesthesiologists, and advanced practice pediatric critical care nurses. Our facilities include a new state of the art Cardiac Intensive Care unit in 2021 and the most advanced technology available for diagnosis, treatment, and translational research for our patients, who range in age from fetal to young adult.

As a member of the Heart Center team, the APRN Manager is responsible for oversight and leadership of APPs in outpatient, the procedural anesthesia team, and outpatient specialty programs. These teams provide coverage to all outpatient cardiac patients. The APP Manager uses sound human resource and financial management principles and techniques to guide the provision of advanced practice services to patients and families. The APP Manager supports comprehensive patient and family services through effective participation with the inter-professional team and is responsible for personnel, workplace, and technology resources necessary for the provision of safe, high-quality patient and family care.

• Works effectively with Heart Center leadership and outpatient teams through clear, effective communication.
• Provides family centered patient care that is based in scientific theory and is outcome focused.
• Serves as a role model, consultant change agent and facilitator in assessing the learning needs and in planning implementing and evaluating education activities for the Heart Center APRN staff and Children's Mercy community
• Leads the application of new knowledge and innovation to advance APP-related improvements at the department and organization level.
• Utilizes professional activity and financial data to assist with the APP operating budget, optimizing APP contributions to care and formulating plans for new programs or services.

The Manager, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is responsible for leadership of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) and/or Physician Assistants (PA). The APP Manager uses sound human resource and financial management principles and techniques to guide the provision of advanced practice services to patients and families, collaborating with APPs to set standards for care quality and safety. The APP Manager supports comprehensive patient and family services through effective participation with the inter-professional team.

Responsibilities

- Clinical Practice: Expertly provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing care based on the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement.
- Professional Leadership: Provides leadership and oversight of the advanced practice programs and activities of the practice area to support high quality care of patients and families.
- Organizational Development/CQPI: Leads the application of new knowledge and innovation to advance APP-related improvements at the department and organization level.
- Resources: Assures the personnel, workplace, and technology resources necessary for the provision of safe, high quality patient and family care.
- Financial Accountability: Utilizes professional activity and financial data to assist with the APP operating budget; optimizing APP contributions to care and formulating plans for new programs or services.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree and 5-7 years experience APP pediatric experience and progressive experience in leadership roles
• Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, Licensed Physician Assistant KS, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
• Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, Licensed Physician Assistant MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
• Certified Nurse Practitioner Missouri
• Certified Nurse Practitioner Kansas
• AND successful completion of national board certification in one of the following:
• OR Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) MO & KS Required Upon Hire
• APP board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Provider Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
