Full Job Description
Primary Function of the Position

Work within Intuitive's Laser Process Engineering (LPX) group towards the advancement of laser process technology from the product design board to the manufacturing floor.

Essential Job Duties
  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary (mechanical design, software controls, machine vision, laser physics) team environment to create platforms and workholding for laser processing
  • Help improve laser process output in both laser lab and production manufacturing environments
  • Help drive root cause analyses of system and equipment failures with the ability to deep dive Software and data analysis
  • Collaborate to design, qualify, document, and validate: laser processes and related tooling
  • Provide production line support for day-to-day engineering issues with laser equipment
  • Work with NPD to help drive DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly/Automation) specific to laser processes


Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience
  • A passion for solving tough technical problems - Strong mechanical intuition and persistence to drill down to pinpoint root cause of problems, solving problems using fundamental principles
  • Proficiency using CAD to design parts and assemblies and to create specification drawings in a PDM environment; Solidworks strongly preferred
  • Experience with validation/verification/qualification of process, equipment, fixtures, and tooling
  • Some knowledge of component manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment specific to developing laser processes including welding/marking/cutting/ablating
  • Hands-on engineering with the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and layouts
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately (written and oral) across all levels and functions, including presenting to a technical audience
  • Familiarity with design for assembly, manufacturing and automation
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Troubleshooting mindset
  • Comfortable operating measurement and test equipment

Required Education and Training
  • Minimum BS / MS degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, minimum 3 years with a masters
  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience designing or manufacturing commercial products, medical device experience preferred

Working Conditions
  • 100% onsite work with the ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Medical Device industry experience
  • Experience developing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems
  • Comfortable operating machine shop, measurement, and test equipment
  • Firsthand machining experience preferred
