Full Job Description
The Role -

Amphenol Aerospace Operations is seeking a Metrology Supervisor to work out of its state-of-the-art facility in Sidney, NY.

The Metrology Supervisor leads and manages day-to-day programming, implementation, and proliferation of AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) and CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machines) while maintaining compliance with the AS9100 quality management system; maintains and develops practices compliant with ISO-17025, documents best practices for calibration, and streamlines metrology solutions.

The key responsibilities of the Metrology Supervisor include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise hourly and salaried personnel
  • Develop and implement AOI and CMM programs for systemic solutions
  • Document, review and maintain measurement work instructions for operators and inspectors
  • Maintain and develop compliance with ISO-17025 standards
  • Seek contemporary expansion of technology/equipment for improved metrology and calibration
  • Obtain regular professional training related to metrology software packages, ISO and AS standards, and calibration techniques
  • Owns the MSA (Measurement System Analysis) portion of APQP (Advance Product Quality Plan)
  • Coordinates with process and supervision for the acceptance of new CNCs and the bi-yearly capability studies that are conducted on them
  • Validate process improvements as required by Engineering and Process
  • Schedule overtime as required by workload, maintain employee time keeping, schedule vacations based on typical workload
  • Validate inspector rejections
  • Become delegated source inspector for customers that need coverage
  • Help inspectors with the interpretation of drawings and routines
  • Oversee the inspector training as required by the quality manual
  • Abide by collective bargaining unit rules and all safety rules and regulations
  • Act as the primary interface for customer service received phone and email issues and questions
  • Coordinate action items with quality engineers, process engineers, manufacturing engineers, and all other required resources to satisfy customer needs
  • Supervisor and manager responsibilities related to EHS:
    • Ensure safe work practices are being followed by employees
    • Ensure direct reports attend required EHS training
    • Understand training requirements for tasks that are being performed
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are appropriately reported and corrective actions are implemented

Salary - $70,000 - $105,000

The Person -

The key skills and qualities of a Metrology Supervisor at Amphenol Aerospace Operations:
  • Minimum BA/BS degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent education/experience
  • 3-5 years manufacturing experience or work in metrology environment preferred
  • Prior personnel management and/or leadership experience
  • Experience with: MicroVu Inspec Software, Keyence IM Series, Zeiss Calypso, and/or Sylvac-Reflex SCAN+
  • Understands factory documentation and quality systems
  • Cost reduction and budget experience
  • Personnel management and leadership
  • Familiarity with inspection tools
  • Working knowledge of the Quality Manual, military specifications, ITAR, and the Quality System
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 requirements and aerospace drawings/specifications
  • Strong understanding of ISO-17025
  • Experience with inspection tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, optical, gauges) and measurement techniques
  • Experience calibration inspection tools
  • Ability to work in a production environment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Capable of working with and motivating employees to achieve company goals
  • Leadership skills, problem-solving, and familiarity with QA systems and audit requirements
  • Ability to create and document inspection routines in a clear, concise, and logical form for employees to follow
  • Comfortable with GD&T / Blueprint interpretation
  • 3D modeling software experience: Creo/Pro-E preferred
  • Minitab, Microsoft Office, 5S, 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Competencies of data structures
  • Typical functions require maintaining a physical condition necessary for walking, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Most time spent in these conditions is accommodated with proper human factors in mind (i.e. back-support on chairs, fatigue mats, etc.) with frequent opportunity to change position.
