Metrology Lead

ALK Source Materials, Inc.

ALK Source Materials, Inc., a leading manufacturer of quality allergenic biological source materials, and a member of the global ALK-Abello' group of companies, is recruiting for open Metrology Lead position. Join our stable and growing company and provide leadership and expertise to our workforce located in our 150,000 square foot facility in Post Falls, ID.

Position Summary

The Metrology Lead provides technical leadership, daily oversight, and program-level coordination for the site's Metrology Program. This role acts as the primary point of contact for Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Development regarding instrumentation status, calibration scheduling, technical troubleshooting, and program compliance. As a team leader, the Metrology Lead ensures that calibration work is planned, executed, and documented consistently across the team, while supporting Operations, Quality, and Development in maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of instrumentation and measurement systems used in the production and testing of allergen source materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily calibration workflow, assignments, and resource allocation for Specialists I-III. Provide structured training, mentorship, competency development, and support onboarding and performance development.
  • Oversee calibration scheduling, CMMS accuracy (e.g., Blue Mountain RAM), and timely completion of all calibration tasks. Track Calibration Program KPIs and prepare reports for management.
  • Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on complex analytical and process instrumentation. Review and approve calibration documentation to ensure compliance with safety requirements, cGMPs, internal procedures, and regulatory expectations.
  • Act as site SME for audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions related to calibration. Lead cross-functional investigations for Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) results, deviations, instrumentation failures, and CAPAs.
  • Partner with Engineering on new equipment procurement, commissioning, and defining calibration requirements. Participate in selecting/specifying instrumentation for new equipment and process upgrades.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to metrology, calibration efficiency, data integrity, safety, and instrumentation reliability.
  • Maintain and track instrumentation spare parts and calibration consumables inventory. Support calibration needs at other ALK facilities as required (minimal travel).

Education & Experience Requirements

Education
  • Two-year technical degree in Instrumentation, Metrology, Electronics/EET, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • OR Equivalent Professional Experience, defined as hands-on work in calibration, instrumentation, metrology, controls, electronics, or technical maintenance within manufacturing, laboratory, GMP, aerospace, industrial, utilities, or medical device environments.

Experience
  • Minimum 9 years of calibration, instrumentation, metrology, or technical maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership or SME-level responsibility is required.
  • Strong preference for extensive GMP, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience.
