Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $80,700.00 - $134,500.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to $32,800.00, based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details

The Metalworking Specialist provides advanced technical sales expertise on machining, welding and grinding. This role conducts onsite assessments that enables customers to evaluate, select and successfully implement complex products and solutions. Support revenue growth by understanding customers' business and technical requirements and develop presentations and demonstrations for solutions. The Metalworking Specialist collaborates with internal sales partners to provide insight and expertise to help our customers.

You Will
  • Lead consultative customer engagements by understanding complex customer business needs, technical requirements, and operational priorities to develop tailored solutions that improve performance and deliver measurable value.
  • Leverage market intelligence, competitive insights, and internal resources to anticipate changes in customer business needs and educate customers on emerging trends, Grainger capabilities, and relevant fabrication and machining solutions.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of customer businesses, products, services, manufacturing processes, and operational requirements to recommend metalworking solutions that improve operational performance, expand solution adoption, and support profitable growth.
  • Implement customer-focused strategies and influence account-level strategy by applying market intelligence, customer priorities, technical expertise, and business objectives to identify and advance revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Partner with internal Grainger teams, cross-functional stakeholders, sales partners, and strategic suppliers to develop, position, demonstrate, and implement integrated technical solutions that address customer business and operational requirements.
  • Document customer engagements, solution outcomes and other sales tools, leveraging performance insights to improve account strategies, productivity and profitable growth.


You Have
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following applications: cutting tools and machining, welding and abrasives, or industrial fabrication. required
  • Experience partnering with customers or end users to assess technical and operational challenges related to industrial fabrication and machining applications and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Knowledge of consumer and industrial machine tool and cutting tool brands and applications used to support customer evaluations and product solutions.
  • Knowledge of machining principles and metal cutting including speeds and feeds, materials, and tool types.
  • Knowledge of machining principles and metal cutting, including speeds and feeds, materials, tooling selection, turning, drilling, milling, and related CNC applications.


  • Preferred experience:


    • Knowledge of fabrication processes and equipment, including sawing, cutting, forming, bending, material preparation, and common shop equipment.
    • Knowledge of welding processes and applications, including MIG, TIG, stick, plasma cutting, filler metals, welding safety, and equipment selection.
    • Knowledge of grinding, finishing, and abrasive applications, including grinding wheels, flap discs, coated abrasives, surface conditioning, cutting, deburring, and material finishing.
    • Knowledge of precision measurement and inspection, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, dimensional inspection, and proper selection and use of measurement tools.
    • Knowledge of CNC operations and related programming environments, including turning, drilling, and milling, with familiarity with applications such as Mastercam, Autodesk Fusion, Siemens, or similar software.


  • Ability to be in the field with customers four to five days a week in Fayetteville, Raleigh, Goldsboro, or Greenville.
