Full Job Description
MES Software Engineer - .NET & Shop Floor Integration

Come join our growing team working onsite in Perrysburg, OH.

Bring your C#/.NET development experience into a modern manufacturing environment where the applications you build directly support shop-floor operations, production systems, engineering, reliability, and research and development.

This role is ideal for a software engineer who understands that manufacturing applications must do more than function in a development environment-they must operate reliably alongside production equipment, databases, PLC-connected systems, shop-floor interfaces, and global manufacturing processes.

You will develop and support manufacturing software, integrate plant-floor systems with enterprise applications, and serve as an advanced technical escalation resource for business-critical manufacturing systems.

Role Overview

The MES Software Engineer will develop new manufacturing applications, enhance existing software, configure enterprise software packages, and provide advanced support for manufacturing systems and related data architecture.

The position combines software development with manufacturing systems integration and Tier 3 application support. The engineer will work with custom-developed applications, commercial software products, SQL Server databases, shop-floor systems, manufacturing control systems, PLC-connected environments, and OPC-based data exchange.

This is not a general web-development position. Candidates must have experience supporting software used within manufacturing or production environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software used in manufacturing, engineering, reliability, and research and development processes.
  • Develop and troubleshoot multi-tier applications using C#, XAML, ASP.NET, JavaScript, T-SQL, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Integrate manufacturing shop-floor systems with custom-developed and commercial software solutions.
  • Interface applications with manufacturing control systems, shop-floor automation systems, PLCs, or OPC-based data-transfer technologies.
  • Design application data structures and develop or modify SQL Server database objects.
  • Support manufacturing applications, databases, interfaces, and related systems after deployment.
  • Provide advanced Tier 3 troubleshooting and escalation support for global manufacturing applications.
  • Deliver hypercare and early-life support following application releases and system implementations.
  • Work with server, network, and database administrators to troubleshoot enterprise-level application and infrastructure issues.
  • Investigate recurring application or system problems and recommend corrective and preventive solutions.
  • Translate business and manufacturing requirements into software, database, integration, and technical-design specifications.
  • Develop application components, software builds, integration-test specifications, deployment packages, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct integration testing and troubleshoot software, interface, configuration, and environment failures.
  • Apply data analysis and data-modeling techniques to create and maintain application data structures.
  • Support application release, deployment, version control, change management, and maintenance processes.
  • Document application configurations, recurring issues, troubleshooting procedures, system changes, and technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing personnel, engineering teams, IT teams, business stakeholders, and external suppliers.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies that may improve manufacturing operations, application reliability, or technical efficiency.
  • Follow established software-development, quality, environmental, safety, and housekeeping standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
  • Master's degree in Information Technology or a related field and at least two years of relevant work experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field and at least four years of relevant work experience; or
  • Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field and at least six years of relevant work experience; or
  • At least eight years of equivalent relevant professional experience without a degree.

In addition, candidates must have:
  • At least four years of experience working with manufacturing systems or as part of a software-development team using Microsoft .NET technologies.
  • At least six months of hands-on experience interfacing with one or more of the following:
    • Manufacturing control systems
    • Shop-floor interface or automation systems
    • Programmable logic controllers
    • OPC-based data-transfer systems
  • Software-development experience using C# and Microsoft .NET technologies.
  • Experience developing or supporting multi-tier software applications.
  • Experience with ASP.NET, JavaScript, T-SQL, and object-oriented programming.
  • Experience designing data structures and working with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience troubleshooting software applications and integrated systems.
  • Experience with the software-development life cycle.
  • Experience working within Agile development teams.
  • Experience with formal change-management processes.
  • Experience using source-code or version-control tools.
  • Strong logical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing applications using XAML.
  • Experience with AngularJS.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Experience developing, deploying, or supporting Windows mobile applications.
  • Experience supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Experience supporting applications in a high-volume or highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience integrating MES applications with PLCs, OPC servers, equipment-control systems, historians, or plant-floor interfaces.
  • Experience providing Tier 3 or final-level application support.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing applications.
  • Experience with software-build, release, deployment, and early-life support activities.
  • Experience creating physical data flows, file layouts, application specifications, technical prototypes, and recovery procedures.

  • Release and deployment management

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineer who has developed and supported applications in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

They understand how production applications interact with databases, equipment interfaces, shop-floor systems, PLC-connected environments, and enterprise infrastructure. They can develop new functionality while also diagnosing complex production issues involving software, data, integrations, servers, networks, or databases.

The strongest candidate will be comfortable working directly with manufacturing users and technical teams, taking ownership of escalated issues, documenting solutions, and supporting applications that are essential to continuous production operations.
