Merchandise Planner – Furniture

About this opportunity:

The Merchandise Planner – Furniture role offers the opportunity to help drive a large business within Decorative Home, supporting a category that plays an important role in bringing style, quality and value to our guests. With a highly digitally penetrated business and distinct assortment strategies across Target’s owned and marketplace channels, Furniture provides a unique opportunity to build planning expertise across an increasingly dynamic omnichannel landscape.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with Merchandising, Inventory Management, and cross-functional teams to translate business trends and guest demand into financial and inventory strategies. The size, price points, and fulfillment considerations inherent in Furniture create unique planning opportunities, requiring a thoughtful balance of sales growth, inventory productivity, availability, and operational considerations.

You’ll also have the opportunity to influence how we optimize our assortment and investments across channels, using data and insights to identify opportunities and navigate tradeoffs. This is an ideal role for a planner who is energized by a complex, digitally led business and enjoys connecting financial strategy, assortment decisions, and operational execution to deliver strong business and guest outcomes.

A role in Planning means leading the financial strategy, forecasting, and inventory investment for one of Target’s businesses. You’ll partner across Merchandising and Supply Chain to translate data into actionable insights, ensuring the right product is available to support guest demand while influencing key business decisions through financial analysis and strategic recommendations.

As a Merchandise Planner, you’ll lead in-season decision support, assortment planning, and demand forecasting while partnering with cross-functional teams and vendors to execute the divisional strategy. You’ll manage the open-to-buy process, evaluate category investments, and conduct scenario planning to optimize assortments and inventory. Through analysis of forecast performance and supply and demand trends, you’ll identify risks and opportunities, inform “chase-cancel” decisions, and provide recommendations that improve financial outcomes. You’ll also lead initial set planning, validate promotional forecasts, support Pricing & Promotion Center of Excellence decisions, and oversee event forecasting and end-of-season inventory strategies.

Core responsibilities are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • 3+ years of Merchandising experience

  • Strong collaboration skills to partner with cross-functional teams
  • Flexible, resilient, and comfortable working in “grey areas” that are constantly changing
  • Ability to connect financial insights with assortment, inventory, and operational considerations to drive business outcomes
  • Curiosity and comfort navigating a highly digital, evolving business with multiple channels and fulfillment considerations
