MEP Engineer (Connectivity)The Opportunity:Legacy Professional Services is seeking an
MEP Engineer (Connectivity) to support the coordination, installation, integration, testing, and turnover of structured cabling, fiber optic, and low-voltage connectivity systems on hyperscale data center construction projects.
In this role, you'll serve as a connectivity-focused member of the MEP team, working closely with MEP leadership, Project Managers, Superintendents, QA/QC professionals, commissioning teams, IT stakeholders, design teams, and specialty contractors to ensure connectivity infrastructure is properly coordinated with the mechanical, electrical, controls, and other critical building systems that support mission-critical operations.
You'll help bridge the gap between connectivity design and field execution by reviewing technical documentation, coordinating system interfaces and installation requirements, resolving field issues, tracking progress, and supporting testing and commissioning. Your expertise will help ensure connectivity infrastructure is installed in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and hyperscale owner requirements and is ready to support phased turnover and commissioning.
This position is ideal for a technically driven connectivity professional who understands how structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure integrate within complex MEP environments and enjoys solving technical challenges on fast-paced data center projects.
What You'll Do:- Support the installation, integration, and deployment of structured cabling, fiber optic, and low-voltage connectivity systems for hyperscale data center projects.
- Coordinate connectivity scopes with mechanical, electrical, controls, fire/life safety, and other MEP systems to ensure proper system interfaces and installation sequencing.
- Review MEP and connectivity drawings, network diagrams, specifications, submittals, coordination drawings, and project documentation to identify installation requirements, conflicts, and dependencies.
- Coordinate pathway requirements, cable tray, sleeves, penetrations, equipment spaces, grounding and bonding, power requirements, and other interfaces between connectivity and MEP systems.
- Support the coordination of telecommunications rooms, network spaces, racks, cabinets, fiber infrastructure, and associated connectivity equipment.
- Coordinate rack-and-stack activities and deployment of white space infrastructure as required by the project.
- Verify connectivity installations meet project specifications, manufacturer requirements, TIA/EIA standards, BICSI best practices, and hyperscale owner requirements.
- Coordinate with connectivity contractors, MEP trades, design teams, and project leadership to identify and resolve field conflicts and constructability issues.
- Coordinate and document fiber optic testing, copper certification, OTDR testing, and other system validation activities.
- Collaborate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to support inspections, testing, system readiness, Integrated Systems Testing, and client acceptance.
- Track connectivity materials, equipment, network hardware deliveries, installation progress, testing documentation, deficiencies, and turnover requirements.
- Support short-term planning and sequencing activities to align connectivity installation with MEP construction, equipment energization, commissioning, and phased turnover milestones.
- Maintain as-built drawings, test reports, deficiency logs, turnover packages, and other project documentation using Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Bluebeam, and related construction management platforms.
- Support final inspections, punch-list completion, phased turnover activities, and owner handover.
RequirementsWhat We're Looking For:Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Three or more years of experience supporting connectivity, low-voltage, telecommunications, network infrastructure, or related systems in a commercial construction environment.
- Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, fiber optic infrastructure, low-voltage systems, and associated pathways and spaces.
- Experience coordinating connectivity installations with MEP systems and other construction disciplines.
- Working knowledge of TIA/EIA standards, BICSI best practices, and structured cabling installation requirements.
- Experience coordinating fiber optic testing, copper certification, OTDR testing, or other connectivity system validation activities.
- Ability to read and interpret MEP and connectivity drawings, specifications, network diagrams, coordination drawings, and technical documentation.
- Understanding of construction sequencing, trade coordination, field installation, testing, and turnover processes.
- Strong communication, organization, technical coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience supporting hyperscale data center, mission-critical, industrial, or other large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Experience coordinating connectivity within complex MEP construction environments.
- Familiarity with electrical power, grounding and bonding, controls, fire/life safety, and other systems that interface with connectivity infrastructure.
- Experience with telecommunications pathways and spaces, cable tray, sleeves, penetrations, equipment rooms, and related infrastructure coordination.
- Familiarity with rack integration, white space infrastructure deployment, and data center commissioning processes.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, MEP trades, design teams, and specialty contractors.
- Knowledge of hyperscale owner standards, phased turnover, commissioning, and Integrated Systems Testing requirements.
Preferred Certifications:- BICSI Installer or RCDD certification
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Manufacturer certifications such as Corning, CommScope, Panduit, or similar
