Job Description:

The Mental Health Clinician works with patients, families, staff, and outside agencies to facilitate or recommend appropriate referrals, preventative services, treatment, and support for individuals experiencing mental health, alcohol, drug, or other substance abuse issues. The role also co-responds with law enforcement officers to 911 and other service calls involving individuals in crisis within the Brockton community.

This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of ongoing funding, with the current grant scheduled to end in 2036. The position's funding will be reviewed annually from the date of hire.

SALARY: $85,500 Annually

REPORTS TO: Works under the supervision of the Community Engagement Division supervisors. A licensed mental health professional will be made available for consultation and additional supervision.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Navigators

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Actively participate in the ride-along function of the Co-Response model.
• Provides behavioral health assessments to individuals and families in crisis who encounter the police.
• Perform all duties in accordance with the agency's policies and procedures.
• Provide initial crisis intervention services to individuals in need.
• Represent the program in a prepared and professional manner at community events, task forces, and public speaking engagements.
• Maintain linkages with law enforcement and community agencies by providing documented case consultation, program development and problem resolution.
• Provide information and referral services to individuals and families.
• Maintain necessary documentation, data entry, and records in accordance with program requirements.
• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of managed care and health insurance systems; provide other clinicians with managed care information and resources pertinent to the crisis being managed.
• Participate in cross training of law enforcement and mental health clinicians.
• Prepare for monthly Operations/CCIT meetings with the Police Department.
• Attend and actively participate in supervision and staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:

Master's degree in a related field (e.g., counseling, psychology, social work, experience conducting crisis evaluations, must hold a current license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), and/or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a valid driver's license are all required.

• Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with employees and providers.
• Must have working knowledge of the current version of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to support and create a welcoming culture of diversity, equity and inclusion amongst diverse audiences, including department staff, elected officials, and the public.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in the co-response model preferred.
