The Opportunity

As a Member Technical Staff at Nutanix, your role will be to handle escalated customer problems on a day-to-day basis as a Sustaining Engineer. You will be a vital part of our mission to maintain Nutanix's high industry standard NPS score by providing excellent engineering assistance alongside our support organization to our valued customers. About the Team

The Dev-Extension team ("DevEx" for short) at Nutanix is a 70+ person team located primarily in the US and India. They play a crucial role in maintaining a high NPS score by solving and root-causing challenging customer problems at a code level. The entire company admires their successes, and they have been recognized multiple times in R&D All Hands. Your Role
  • Work as a part of the extended software development team on software bugs and review software features in next major releases.
  • Address customer escalations to Engineering
  • Diagnose and debug deep and insidious issues; provide quick manual or scripted workarounds and fixes for those issues
  • Develop automation tools to find bottlenecks and do root cause analysis, and corrective action
  • Engage with customers and support team members when needed to solve production issues
  • Develop a deep understanding of complex distributed systems, and design innovative solutions for customer requirements
  • Work on distributed systems, platforms, and infrastructure, data protection, management framework, and virtualization
  • Work closely with Development, Test, Documentation, and Product Management teams to deliver high-quality products in a fast-paced environment
  • Program in Linux environment and employ robust software engineering practices to develop and maintain reliable, field-serviceable, and maintainable software components


What You Will Bring
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, with up to 6+ years of industry experience.
  • Love of programming and rock-solid ability in one or more languages: Python (preferred), Golang, or C/ C++, ideally for enterprise-quality software.
  • Extensive Debugging Knowledge on Linux/Unix environment.
  • Knowledge of File systems internals is an advantage.
  • Development or sustaining experience in systems management software, preferably in a distributed systems.
  • Experience working with virtualization technologies like KVM, VMware, Hyper-V, Xen. KVM or VMware.
  • Experience working in data protection, file systems, object storage like S3 or disaster recovery.
  • Familiarity with x86 architecture, OS internals, concepts of distributed data management, and design/implementation tradeoffs in building clustered, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed system's software.
  • Strong written, verbal, and collaboration skills.
  • Team player that works well in fast-paced situations and startup environments


Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 147,000 and USD $ 294,000 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
