Job Description

Hologic is seeking a Medical Physicist, R&D to join our Breast & Skeletal Health Research & Development team. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to support the development, integration, and enhancement of imaging systems used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

This position applies scientific expertise in medical imaging physics and radiation-based technologies to help ensure imaging systems are safe, effective, and clinically valuable. The role spans research, new product development, system integration, and post-release product support, while working closely with clinicians and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply principles of medical physics and imaging science to the development and optimization of medical devices and imaging technologies.
  • Provide medical physics expertise during research and new product development for imaging systems.
  • Evaluate and characterize imaging properties and operating parameters to enhance system performance, reliability, and clinical functionality.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex or unusual technical issues related to imaging systems.
  • Partner with medical physicists and clinicians in the field to support Marketing, Customer Experience, and Field Service in resolving customer issues with released products.
  • Support the MQSA Quality Control program for Breast Health X-ray systems and assist with quality control training for end users.
  • Contribute to systems engineering activities, including concept development, requirements specification, design, and implementation.
  • Support the documentation and development of product features, ensuring clinical and user needs are reflected in design decisions.
  • Evaluate imaging performance during system integration and validation activities.
  • Mentor and guide peers to build imaging product knowledge and technical capability across the team.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance tools, technologies, and development processes.
  • Stay current with emerging imaging technologies and scientific advancements.
Qualifications
Education
  • Master's degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field required
  • PhD preferred

Experience
  • 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree, or 0+ years with a PhD
  • Experience in medical device design and development is preferred
  • Familiarity with regulatory and quality standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 62366, and FDA regulations is desirable

The annualized base salary range for this role is $97,900- $153,200 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
