Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of a Senior Supervising CLS, perform independently a wide variety of technical procedures in a section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Job duties include performing clinical laboratory tests, preparing reagents, performing quality control and calibration for test systems, maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, processing specimens, performing data entry, and phlebotomy. The CLS Specialist tasks are identified with an asterisk (*). Must be able to work weekends, holidays and others shifts as needed. On a daily basis, assess overall workload of the laboratory and assist coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor.

Work is assigned daily and reviewed by supervisory personnel or designee. All Clinical Laboratory Scientists may process specimens, perform waived and non-waived testing without direct and constant supervision, and report results without supervisor or director review for the tests that are within their scope of licensure and for which they have been trained and deemed competent.

• A current, California MLT license
• High school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED or HiSET).
• Minimum of 1-2 years of recent clinical lab experience in a high-volume testing laboratory (post receiving MLT license
• Availability to work weekends, holidays and other shifts as needed.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Skill in performing related computer procedures (LIS, HIS).
• Knowledgeable in quality assurance practices, preferred.
