  • Process and ship reference laboratory specimens in compliance with regulations.

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) to support the Veteran community in the Wilmington, DEarea. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.

Position Highlights:
  • Logistics:
    • Pay: $40.00 per hour
  • Schedule:
    • Monday through Friday
      • 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
      • 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
    • Sunday night through Thursday Night Shift
      • 10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
  • Location:
    • Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE
  • Requirements:

    • Ability to work as a team member and effectively complete assignments.
    • Ability to read and interpret written instructions.
    • Ability to accurately perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
    • Previous experience with the VA is a plus

What does a typical day look like for the Medical Laboratory Scientist?

You will:
  • Perform a full range of laboratory testing using manual and automated methods, evaluate results, and resolve testing issues using scientific principles.
  • Evaluate and resolve problems with specimen collection and processing, maintain and document equipment performance, and perform calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform and document quality control and assurance activities, adhere to biosafety and biosecurity regulations, and identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to inquiries about test methods and results, interpret findings, and recommend follow-up testing.
  • Verify, edit, and enter laboratory data into the LIS, recognize and report critical values, and fully document communication.
  • Evaluate and implement new techniques and procedures, communicate effectively with healthcare staff, and provide guidance based on laboratory principles.
  • Organize work to meet deadlines, properly process and validate specimens, and ensure accurate labeling and specimen integrity.
  • Process, package, and ship reference laboratory specimens in compliance with regulatory requirements, document test orders, meet shipment deadlines, and report critical values per policy.
  • Support operations by reviewing, scanning, processing, and documenting specimens and manifests.

What qualifications do you look for?

  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • MLS(ASCP) certification,
  • Previous clinical experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures of clinical laboratory testing.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to work as a team member and effectively complete assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus

If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
