Job Overview

Fairview has a Medical Dosimetrist opening for the Radiation Oncology Clinic at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This full-time role (80 hours per biweekly pay period) follows a Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position begins onsite for training and transitions to a hybrid arrangement, with roughly 40% of work performed remotely.

The Medical Dosimetrist develops radiation therapy treatment plans using computer software with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed dose and spare critical structures as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Contour of normal and dose limiting structures using fusion of diagnostic studies such as CT, MRI, and PET with radiation treatment CT dataset. Accurate transfer of plans to record and verify system for patient treatment. This person will also provide technical supervision for the simulation, localization and treatment of patient. Assists in clinical instruction of radiation therapy students, medical and physics residents.

What you will do as a Medical Dosimetrist:
  • Designs treatment plans and calculates distribution of doses using volumetric information with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists prescription.
  • Create and transfer plan information to the Radiation oncology treatment system for treatment verification and delivery. Includes DRR's, CBCT's and other IGRT methods.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in the planning and implementation of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Assist in use of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, document all pertinent information in the patient record, and verify the mathematical accuracy of all calculations by an approved method.
  • Communicate with the radiation therapist(s) and assume an advisory role in the implementation of the treatment plan including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters.
  • Provide assistance and technical support to the medical physicist, in radiation safety and protection.
  • Participate in clinical research and continuing education.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes.


What you will need:
  • Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by MDCB or Graduate of an accredited Medical Dosimetry program with Board certification required within 2 years of hire.
  • Familiarity with treatment planning systems (experience with Pinnacle, Raystation, Velocity and Mosaiq preferred)
  • Radiation Therapy and Medical dosimetry experience preferred.
