Exciting Opportunity for a Neonatal Hospitalist/Medical Director of Infant Care Services!- Department: Infant Care Services
- Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Position SummaryJob Summary
Provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to newborns, including routine newborn care; evaluation and management of common neonatal conditions; stabilization and management of sick or premature infants; and coordination of care with neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetric providers, nursing staff, and other specialists. Provide clinical oversight of neonatal providers (pediatricians and advanced practice providers) to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical care to the infant patient population.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform newborn examinations and assess infants for medical problems.
- Work as a member of multidisciplinary team in the delivery of daily medical care for newborns and in the management of common neonatal conditions such as:
- Respiratory distress
- Neonatal hypoglycemia
- Hyperbilirubinemia/jaundice
- Feeding difficulties
- Sepsis evaluation
- Temperature instability
- Weight loss/dehydration
- Attend or assist with deliveries and provide neonatal resuscitation as required.
- Stabilize critically ill or premature infants and arrange transfer to a higher level of care when appropriate.
- Conduct weekly rounding and call coverage plus weekend call coverage in accordance with patient needs and established coverage procedures.
- Provide clinical oversight of Infant Care Services delivery of care, including the support of neonatal providers (pediatricians, APPs).
- Communicate with and educate parents regarding the infant's condition, treatment, feeding, discharge planning, and follow-up.
- Complete admission histories, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other medical documentation using Epic EMR system.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Provide appropriate handoffs and ensure continuity of care between shifts.
- Follow hospital policies, neonatal clinical protocols, and evidence-based standards of care.

- Other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree.
- Completion of an accredited pediatrics residency.
- Board eligible or board certified in Pediatrics; some positions may prefer or require additional neonatal training.
- Current medical license in the state of Connecticut.
- Current BLS certification; NRP certification typically required.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and newborn-care skills.
