Medical Director Functions:
• Ensure medical staff obtain and maintain professional licenses and certifications required for their positions through attending required trainings, tracking CEU's and submitting renewals in a timely manner.
• Provides professional case consultation to medical staff, i.e. physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents, nursing staff, regarding consumer diagnosis, pharmacology, treatment interventions, & coordination of care.
• Collaborates with the Chief Program Officer of Medical and Crisis Services regarding medical clinic policy & procedure review & development, psychiatry outcome development, tracking & analysis, evidence based prescribing practice research & implementation & medication clinic practices & protocols for quality improvement i.e. walk-in flow, wait times, practice management.
• Offers second opinion consultation when either FCS Medical staff or consumer requests additional case/treatment review.
• Provides oversight in the Medication Clinic and Crisis Care center, documentation, best practices, standard of care, clinical service utilization.
• Leads annual review of Family & Children's Services Formulary, medical forms and Medication Services Protocols.
• Serves as active member of the Outpatient & CrisisCare Center Medication Service Committees, meets quarterly.
• Participates in recruiting of all medical personnel
• Oversees development and implementation of the FCS quality improvement physician peer review system.
• Implement and oversee new physician mentor program and 30/60/90-day peer review process
• Provides psychiatric & primary care consultation to all FCS programs and locations
• Collaborates with physicians on selection of annual professional development training opportunities / CME'S.
• Hire, train, retain & supervise all Medical Staff including Clinic Manager, Nursing Staff and Medical Providers.
• Participate in Community Education with a focus on decreasing the stigma of mental health, increasing understanding of mental illness and explain resources that FCS has to offer.
Psychiatrist Functions:
• Provides psychiatry medication assessment and review according to agency scheduling practices. This may be accomplished through a combination of scheduled appointments and unscheduled; (walk-in, crisis & back fill consumers.) The Medication Clinic Operations Manager will assist in crisis management and scheduling of the unscheduled appointments.
• Conducts psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination and diagnosis
• Prescribes psychotropic medications according to agency preferred practices and approved formulary
• Conducts regular Pharmacological Management assessments for therapeutic responses and side effects, and educates clients regarding psychotropic medications.
• Works with consumer to educate about medication and to support and encourage medication compliance
• Works collaboratively with clinical team to ensure that clients obtain needed medication prescriptions and refills, offer services to walk-in clients as needed, and design successful treatment tracks for potentially difficult clients.
• Serves as liaison between F&CS and various hospital and emergency treatment facilities to obtain needed inpatient treatment for clients.
• Documents client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to established methods and procedures in a timely manner.
• Provide leadership on medical matters in monthly physician meeting.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
• Medical Degree with Psychiatry Specialty
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 5 year of psychiatry experience (may include residency experience).
• Previous experience in community-based mental health organization is desired.
• Extensive experience diagnosing mental health problems with adult clients
