About the RoleAs Medical Director, Breast Diagnostics, you will lead the development and execution of US diagnostic strategies that support precision patient identification, companion diagnostics, and testing solutions across the breast cancer portfolio. Working within US Medical Affairs, you will collaborate extensively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure diagnostic excellence throughout the patient journey.
You will serve as a scientific leader, driving innovative approaches to testing access, infrastructure, and stakeholder engagement in a rapidly evolving oncology landscape.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute US diagnostic strategies across AstraZeneca's breast oncology portfolio, including current and future small molecule therapies.
- Ensure companion diagnostic and testing readiness to support successful product launches.
- Support diagnostic registration and approval activities where required.
- Build strategic partnerships with pathology organizations, diagnostic companies, laboratory networks, healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and key opinion leaders.
- Utilize medical evidence, real-world evidence, and epidemiology to support education and diagnostic adoption strategies.
Required Qualifications- Advanced medical or scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, MBBS).
- 3+ years of experience in health care delivery; including US experience and preferably oncology diagnostic or clinical lab experience, pharmaceutical experience is a plus
- Experience with oncology drug launch and/ or diagnostic product (tests) launch planning and evidence generating efforts to support diagnostic test adoption
Preferred Qualifications- Proven experience with a broad base of external experts including pathologists, oncologists, laboratory professionals and US healthcare providers. A track record of effective management of decision-making bodies and governance
- An understanding of diagnostic FDA environment, clinical laboratory practices including CLIA lab requirements and test implementation
- Proven track record of strategic thinking, judgment and influencing skills, Strong leadership attributes to set direction, generate commitment, balance short and long-term needs, constructively resolve issues
- Proven demonstration of effective cross-functional project team leadership
- Ability to lead and influence through change
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Compensation and BenefitsAstraZeneca is committed to providing competitive, equitable and transparent compensation.
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $186,831 - $280,246 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
