Mechatronics Test Engineer III

Position Details:
  • The hiring range for this role is typically between $129,000 and $156,000 annually, with the full range extending to $182,000 annually, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
  • This position will be In-Office

Primary Function:
The Mechatronics Test Engineer III is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving robotic systems and prototype platforms. This role serves as a technical bridge between hardware, software, and operations teams to ensure robotic systems remain operational and available for engineering development, testing, validation, and data collection activities.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Maintain operational readiness, reliability, and uptime of robotic systems, prototype platforms, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware, software, firmware, networking, and infrastructure issues across complex electromechanical systems.
  • Perform system bring-up, calibration, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and validation activities for robotic systems and prototype platforms.
  • Conduct root cause investigations, identify recurring failure trends, and drive corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting procedures, operational documentation, and technical best practices.
  • Create and utilize scripts, tools, and automation solutions for diagnostics, monitoring, data collection, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support engineering development and test activities by reproducing failures, collecting logs, analyzing system behavior, and documenting findings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and serve as a technical resource for operators, technicians, and engineers.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex system and prototype platform issues.
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience supporting complex electromechanical, robotic, automated, or prototype systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting integrated hardware and software systems in development, test, or production environments.
  • Experience performing system bring-up, calibration, maintenance, repair, and validation activities on complex technical systems.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, software, and infrastructure domains.
  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and command-line diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages for diagnostics, automation, or data collection.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group

Work Environment:
Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
