Job Description

The Mechanical Systems Engineer II will be based in our Honeywell LNG Headquarters located in Allentown, PA on a hybrid basis. You will contribute to the LNG Manufacturing and Design Engineering (MDE) - Piping and Structural Design & Engineering (PSDE) team and other disciplines within the LNG organization.
  • For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.


The successful candidate will be one of the key members of the MDE team with responsibility for the selection, specification, and technical requisition of mechanical components within Honeywell LNG's proprietary liquefaction systems. The candidate will be responsible for the specification and design of plant-size systems utilizing components including piping, fittings, valves, insulation, coatings, and specialty in-line items. Additionally, they will interpret regulatory and customer specifications, manage supply chain technical aspects, system pressure testing, and any design breaks.

The incumbent will ensure that all mechanical systems comply with engineering standards, industry standards, safety regulations, project specifications, and company policies. The position requires occasional domestic and international travel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Function as the Mechanical Systems Engineering Subject Matter Expert within the Honeywell LNG Organization. Interface with cross-functional disciplines such as Piping Design, Piping Stress Engineering, Process Controls, Machinery Engineering, Procurement, Process Safety, and Process Systems Engineering during Basic Engineering and Design or on projects from conceptual phase through project execution.
  • Develop and/or select specifications for piping, manual valves, control valves, insulation, coatings, and fittings for various fluid services, temperatures, and pressures related to LNG applications, creating new project or application-specific specifications, as necessary.
  • Maintain the library of Honeywell LNG mechanical component specifications, standards, selection processes, and review procedures, ensuring alignment with other Honeywell businesses, industry standards (ASME, API, EN), and regulatory requirements.
  • Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) at every stage of a bid or project to ensure safe operation, start-up, shut-down, maintenance, and overall integrity based on material type, temperature, pressure, and service.
  • Create pressure test diagrams according to ASME B31.3 Code for Process Piping or similar industry codes.
  • Review changes in P&ID process scope and design, updating specified Mechanical System components accordingly.

  • Manage technical requisition deliverables for manual valves, control valves, and other in-line piping equipment (such as strainers and other specialty inline components), reviewing vendor proposals and drawings, and qualifying new vendors.
  • Calculate required piping thickness based on internal and external pressures.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering and Startup Team for the selection of control valves for LNG applications.
  • Review customer/EPC specifications, industrial standards, and regulatory requirements to align the scope of supply during project bid phase.
  • Participate in safety assessments and ensure adherence to environmental regulations throughout the design phase.
  • Occasionally participate in plant visits and international field repair trips.


Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Petrochemical or LNG industry with a focus on mechanical systems engineering or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME B31.3 Process Piping code and/ or other international standards.


WE VALUE
  • Fully conversant with industry codes and standards such as those from ASME, API, ISO, and MSS.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs including piping isometrics.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design principles, particularly for cryogenic applications, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of LNG processes, equipment, and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of how mechanical systems integrate with other engineering disciplines, including electrical, instrumentation, and process engineering.
  • Experience and knowledge with ASME B31.3 Process Piping code and other relevant industry standards.
  • Knowledge of material properties, especially for cryogenic applications. Understanding how materials behave under extreme temperatures is essential.
  • Familiarity with corrosion resistance and fatigue limits for metals and alloys used in LNG facilities.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards specific to the LNG industry.
  • Experience in preparing Smart 3D pipe class database.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a team environment, fostering collaboration among diverse engineering disciplines.
  • Skills in managing conflicts and building positive working relationships.
  • Openness to continuous personal and professional development through training and certification courses.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
