Full Job Description
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for management of the Structural and Mechanical Design projects and department. Management responsibilites include assigning resoures to the various engineering projects and developing those resources to meet the needs of the business. This person will act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the structural portion of a design by reviewing and implementing structural designs that meet cost and schedule objectives and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Directs and guides the activities of the structural and civil engineering design function.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates engineering personnel to ensure efficient and effective department operations.
  • Tracks schedules and budgets for assigned programs and prepares/updates task lists.
  • Issues long lead materials as required for project execution.
  • Manages and oversees analysis, testing, and feasibility studies of structural systems, site infrastructure, and related components.
  • Designs structural systems to account for transport, live, and seismic loads.
  • Collaborates with designers and analysts to perform trade studies and determine optimal structural design solutions.
  • Evaluates final structural designs, calculations, and test outcomes to ensure alignment with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Reviews structural designs for compliance with applicable codes and standards, including UFC, IBC, ANSI, and ASCE.
  • Reviews and approves engineering drawings.
  • Ensures that required documentation-such as design specifications, test procedures, and regulatory compliance materials-is accurate and properly distributed.
  • Leads the implementation of design modifications in collaboration with construction, drafting, and project management teams.
  • Provides technical input to the CAD design team.
  • Reviews customer requirements, including specifications, Statements of Work, and interface drawings to ensure contract compliance.
  • Participates in job kickoff meetings and design reviews with customers.
  • Interfaces with other departments to resolve questions and technical issues.
  • Creates technical proposals, technical materials, and procurement specifications.
  • Supports the Sales department in proposal development and engineering estimates.
  • Reviews vendor/shop drawings, quotes, and proposals.
  • Resolves vendor issues and dispositions defective material. Creates Cost Schedule Impact Logs (CSIL's) for added scope.
  • Submits Engineering Change Proposals (ECP's).
  • Interfaces with customers and contracts to resolve customer related issues.
  • Contributes to product improvement, new products, and product standardization.
  • Mentors Associate Mechanical Design Engineers and Mechanical Design Engineers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BSME/BSMET degree in technical field.
  • 6+ years professional engineering experience with progressive responsibility and/or team lead/supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Auto-Cad; 3-D Modeling Software, etc.
  • Defense/DoD-engineering background preferable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
