Responsibilities

Mechanical Senior Principal Engineer-Data Center IT Rack Feasibility

Mechanical Engineering leads and delivers the development of innovative and compliant mechanical design solutions. Our team conducts feasibility studies and preliminary testing of mechanical products, instruments, and subassemblies for new products and technologies, interlocking with cross-functional downstream stakeholders.

As a Mechanical Senior Principal Engineer-Data Center IT Rack Feasibility, you will interpret technology collateral to own complex mechanical designs, conduct selective detailed analyses, and prepare test plans to validate function, reliability, and compliance. You will coordinate with downstream stakeholders to support product requirements during early feasibility investigations.

You will:
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative, customer-centric data center infrastructure and high-density rack solutions
  • Lead a design team to develop mechanical and thermal components for air and liquid-cooled systems, leveraging 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to create sheet metal, plastic, die-cast, and complex assemblies
  • Lead a design team to develop, prototype, and evaluate new concepts for feasibility, performance, reliability, and manufacturability, utilizing engineering analysis tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) where appropriate
  • Interpret technical specifications and supplier documentation to support design decisions and optimize thermal, mechanical, and system-level performance
  • Collaborate with and influence technology partners, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and tooling teams to create robust designs while improving scalability, serviceability, and cost efficiency

Essential Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product development or equivalent skill
  • Background in air and liquid cooling technologies, with emphasis on liquid cooling and rack-level thermal components
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks for designing sheet metal, plastics, and die-cast components
  • Ability to interpret technical data sheets
  • Firm understanding of FEA tools
  • Leadership experience in fast-paced product development


Desirable Requirement
  • Secondary degree in Mechanical or Thermal Engineering
  • Experience designing high-density IT rack solutions for data centers


Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $174k - $226k.
