Position Overview

We are seeking Project Managers with a thorough knowledge of HVAC and Plumbing system installation throughout a broad spectrum of building types. The ideal candidate will be able to meet with a customer (owner) and work with very little information to conceptualize, scope, price and ultimately construct a project. They must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize profitability and performance for us and our customers.

This position is for our national division which is responsible for the HVAC, Plumbing, and Piping scopes of work for new construction projects as well as remodel work in buildings such as data centers, hospitals and associated healthcare buildings, casinos and sports stadiums. The national division is a traveling group; individuals work on large multi-year projects and then move to the next project in a different location. This role is to be located on site of a data center project located in DeKalb, IL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include managing all aspects of Mechanical trade work with projects direct to owner and Construction Managers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills is required.
  • Customer skills, project accounting, technical ability, and cost control ability are all important elements of the job.
  • Basic design and code understanding is required.
  • Oversee total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, A/E representatives, subcontractors, etc.
  • Ability to price and work off P&ID drawings and then take them to layouts / ISOs for the construction phase.
  • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise activities of all company personnel on assigned projects.
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client and A/E contacts to facilitate construction activities. Build upon those relationships for securing future work.
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of Project Engineers, Project Assistants, Trade Superintendent, and Site Foreman to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; analyze variances and implement corrective measures.
  • Manage all financial aspects of contracts (material & equipment buyouts, billings, payment, subcontractor, income/expenses, value engineering, etc.) to protect company's interest and relationship with the customer.
  • Accountable for making decisions and recommendations which can greatly affect profitability of our projects.
  • Authorize/approve all project transactions, billings, subcontractor requisitions, material purchases, change requests, etc.
  • Ensure project logs and documentation files are maintained (directly or through PA).
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (process piping, plumbing, HVAC) on construction projects from conception through completion, including conceptual design, estimating, pre-construction, construction & project close-out
  • Experience in the contracting world that both self-performs construction work and has had direct craft labor responsibility.
  • Some experience working as a Prime Contractor (direct communication with the owner), not a Subcontractor.
  • Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, Power Point).
  • Knowledge of BIM/CAD processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of common fabrication practices and implementation on jobsites.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera).


Requirements

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management and minimum of 2 years' experience in construction leadership (Project Manager or higher) specific to Mechanical Trade Work.

OR
  • 5 years progressive trade experience including 5 years' experience in construction leadership with experience specific to Mechanical Systems.


Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $80,000-$125,000 annually.
