Role Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Associate Manager - Pulp is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of mechanical maintenance work throughout the facility. This role manages, supervises and coaches members of the maintenance team. The Mechanical Maintenance Assocate Manager plays a key role in training, coaching and assessing mechanics on maintenance elements of continuous excellence to establish a continuous improvement and zero loss culture, supervision and regulatory compliance of environmental programs, project installations, modifications, or renovation of equipment.

Job Accountabilities
  • Supervise, direct and lead the daily activities of routine, outage and turnaround maintenance work performed by maintenance crews and assigned contractors as arranged through the Maintenance Planner to ensure employee safety, quality of work and identified goals are met
  • Ensure that the job planning, material and services planning is accurate and effective
  • Manages any urgent or breakdown jobs activities as required to keep equipment running and minimize downtime
  • Provide a clean, organized and safe work environment and maintain area with weekly audits and safety walk-throughs
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following, implementing and enforcing Company safety standards, practices and procedures and complying with legal regulations
  • Coordinate mechanical maintenance activities and train direct reports as necessary
  • Responsible for maintaining all mechanical systems and equipment at the unit level including hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, compressors, boilers
  • Lead or assist in the investigation of all injuries, accidents and near-miss incidents in assigned area
  • Meets maintenance operational standards by implementing productivity and quality standards to ensure proficient utilization of work group and equipment
  • Ensure adherence to Labor Agreement, Company Policies and process standards
  • Develop and implement cause and corrective actions for continuous improvement
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel toward expedient problem resolution
  • Addresses routine personnel issues including training, coaching and counseling and disciplining subordinates
  • Utilize sound human relations and communications skills to provide development of direct reports and motivation of staff resulting in a reliable and competent work force
  • Provide ongoing maintenance support for all shifts by participating in the plant's on call program. This includes evaluating and determining the course of action for maintenance incidents after hours and on weekends while on call and may require on-site supervision of the resolution to maintain operational efficiency
  • Evaluate alternatives and make decisions in a fast-paced work environment
  • Implement and maintain 5-S, Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing principles and continuously identify ways to reduce plant operating costs through lean concepts
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or two (2) year technical certificate and six (6) years mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, including two (2) years of experience in maintenance supervisory role

OR
  • High School Diploma or GED/equivalent and eight (8) years mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, including three (3) years of experience in maintenance supervisory role
  • Three (3) years of experience in mechanical maintenance within a paper, petro-chemical, refining, industrial or manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of various types of mechanical systems and equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, compressors, boilers and rotating equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others with or without direct authority
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and skills
  • Proficient in utilizing computer and Microsoft Office applications
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of Company personnel
  • Willingness to provide coverage during off-shift hour and weekends as required
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including MS Excel and Word
  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to perform tasks that include walking, climbing equipment, working within confined spaces and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Available to work shift work, overtime, holidays and call-ins
  • Must pass drug test, fit-for duty test and background check
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States


Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Ten (10) years relevant technical experience mechanical maintenance experience in a paper, refining, petrochemical or industrial facility, including five (5) years of experience in maintenance supervisory role
  • Experienced in managing in an union environment
  • Considerable knowledge and/or experience of safe work practices
  • Ability to achieve maintenance excellence by establishing and communicating goals
  • Comprehensive knowledge of predictive maintenance practices and procedures
  • Proficient computer skills in a MMS, i.e. Maximo, SAP
  • Strong skills in areas of: operational analysis, budget, problem solving, project management, communication, organizational and leadership
  • Knowledge/experience with 5-S, Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles


Pay Range: $88,000 - $117,300
