Opportunity Overview

Teradyne is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead mechanical engineering for our Silicon Photonics (SiPh) organization in North Reading, Massachusetts. This role will directly impact the development of next-generation optical test platforms that support AI, advanced semiconductors, and high-performance computing.

In this role, you will lead execution of the mechanical engineering platform strategy, guide teams from early concept through released products, and develop an engineering organization operating in a fast-paced, global environment. You will work across mechanical design, optical systems, manufacturing, and customer engagement, shaping both technology and talent.

  • Lead mechanical engineering strategy and execution across the full product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through development, release, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Develop project plans that define scope, phases, resources, costs, schedules, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with systems, optical, software, compliance, operations, marketing, and customer teams to translate needs into robust technical solutions.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a mechanical engineering team through coaching, technical mentorship, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
  • Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support quality, availability, manufacturability, and scalability.
  • Ensure disciplined design reviews, risk identification, compliance with applicable global standards, and timely resolution of complex technical, schedule, or quality issues.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering teams in a managerial or technical leadership role.
  • Proven experience bringing complex products from concept through release.
  • Strong background in mechanical system design within complex, multidisciplinary products.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams across multiple sites and time zones.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with semiconductor systems, optical instrumentation, advanced test equipment, platform-level product development, or high-volume manufacturing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with global compliance standards, including ISO, CE, SEMI, and NFPA, is preferred.
  • Project or program management experience in a matrixed environment is preferred.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this role is $145,500-$232,900. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
