OverviewHexagon Autonomous Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and environmental validation of ruggedized enclosures and mounting systems for smart antennas, radar/lidar/camera modules, and high-performance compute platforms. Your work will ensure these systems operate reliably in harsh automotive and industrial environments.
The Location: Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This position can be located in Calgary, AB.
Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer, responsibilities include:
- Mechanical Design
- Design enclosures and mounts for sensors and compute units with IP67+ sealing and thermal management.
- Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using tools like SolidWorks or Creo.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, serviceability, and cost.
- Thermal & Structural Analysis
- Perform thermal simulations and structural FEA to validate designs under extreme conditions.
- Design passive and active cooling solutions for high-power compute systems.
- Environmental & Durability Testing
- Define and execute test plans for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and ingress protection.
- Support certification efforts for automotive and industrial standards.
- Prototyping & Integration
- Oversee prototype builds and support integration of mechanical systems with electrical and optical components.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers for tooling and production.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with electrical, systems, and software teams to ensure cohesive product development.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level architecture decisions.
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in ruggedized product design, preferably in automotive or industrial sectors.
- Strong knowledge of materials, sealing techniques, and thermal management.
- Experience with IP67/IP69K design, vibration isolation, and EMI shielding.
