Overview

Hexagon Autonomous Solutions is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and environmental validation of ruggedized enclosures and mounting systems for smart antennas, radar/lidar/camera modules, and high-performance compute platforms. Your work will ensure these systems operate reliably in harsh automotive and industrial environments.

 

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This position can be located in Calgary, AB.   

 

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer, responsibilities include: 

 

  • Mechanical Design
  • Design enclosures and mounts for sensors and compute units with IP67+ sealing and thermal management.
  • Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using tools like SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, serviceability, and cost.
  • Thermal & Structural Analysis
  • Perform thermal simulations and structural FEA to validate designs under extreme conditions.
  • Design passive and active cooling solutions for high-power compute systems.
  • Environmental & Durability Testing
  • Define and execute test plans for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and ingress protection.
  • Support certification efforts for automotive and industrial standards.
  • Prototyping & Integration
  • Oversee prototype builds and support integration of mechanical systems with electrical and optical components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers for tooling and production.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with electrical, systems, and software teams to ensure cohesive product development.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level architecture decisions.
Qualifications

Must-Have:                  

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in ruggedized product design, preferably in automotive or industrial sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, sealing techniques, and thermal management.
  • Experience with IP67/IP69K design, vibration isolation, and EMI shielding.
