Mechanical Engineer - Thermal-Structural

Applied Technology Solutions (ATS) is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer - Thermal-Structural to support innovative engineering projects involving custom mechanical systems, thermal-structural hardware, pressure systems, piping systems, weldments, fixtures, and specialized support equipment.

In this role, you will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable, high-performance solutions for complex technical challenges. This position offers the opportunity to support innovative engineering efforts involving analysis, design integration, fabrication coordination, and customer interaction.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and support mechanical and thermal-structural engineering efforts across a variety of challenging technical projects.
  • Design custom mechanical hardware, assemblies, pressure vessels, piping systems, weldments, fixtures, and support equipment.
  • Develop innovative engineering solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Perform structural, thermal-structural, flow, and mechanical analyses using hand calculations and engineering analysis tools.
  • Create and review engineering documentation including calculation packages, reports, presentations, white papers, specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, designers, fabrication personnel, and operations staff to ensure successful design integration.
  • Present technical designs, project updates, and engineering recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Review engineering deliverables prepared by internal and third-party engineers for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as a task lead for assigned engineering efforts, helping drive schedule, technical quality, and execution success.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers through technical guidance, problem-solving support, and hands-on development.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
    • Equivalent practical engineering experience may be considered
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience preferred; applicable advanced education and related experience may be considered toward overall experience requirements
  • Experience supporting mechanical, structural, or thermal-structural engineering projects
  • Familiarity with structural and/or thermal-structural analysis methods
  • Experience with CAD modeling, drawing development, and GD&T
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:
  • ANSYS
  • ABAQUS
  • CAESAR
  • AFT Fathom
  • AFT Arrow
  • MATHCAD

Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards, including:
  • ASME BPVC
  • ASME B31.3
  • AISC 360
  • AWS D1.1
  • ASME Y14.5
