Role descriptionEngine Development Engineer to drive the design, development, calibration, validation, and performance optimization of advanced internal combustion engine (ICE) platforms for gaseous-fueled applications. This role will leverage engine testing, data analytics, ATI Vision, and calibration tools to improve engine performance, reliability, emissions, and control system behavior while supporting the launch of innovative engine and generator products.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, validation, and launch of new engine and generator products.
- Define engine system requirements and develop robust technical specifications.
- Design, develop, integrate, and validate engine components and subsystems.
- Perform engine calibration and optimization, including spark control, air-fuel ratio (AFR), combustion efficiency, emissions, and durability improvements.
- Develop and execute engine test plans, validation procedures, and product qualification activities.
- Analyze engine performance data using ATI Vision and data acquisition systems to drive design improvements.
- Conduct risk, reliability, cost-benefit, and safety analyses for new product development.
- Create and maintain component specifications, engineering documentation, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, product specialists, and cross-functional engineering teams to optimize designs for performance and manufacturability.
- Support project schedules, cost targets, and engineering deliverables throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on development projects.
- Travel to Generac facilities and testing locations as required.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in automotive, powertrain, engine development, calibration, or related engineering fields.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with engine and engine component development.
- 5+ years of experience using ATI/CAN-based calibration tools or similar powertrain calibration platforms.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience using ATI Vision for engine control system development and calibration.
Required Technical Skills- Extensive knowledge of internal combustion engine design, development, testing, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of spark timing, AFR optimization, combustion characteristics, emissions compliance, intake/exhaust dynamics, and engine durability.
- Experience developing and validating complex engine systems and components.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Ability to design and execute engine validation, testing, and process qualification plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 9+ years of experience using GT-SUITE for engine and powertrain simulation.
- 7+ years of experience using CONVERGE for in-cylinder combustion modeling.
- 3+ years of experience applying MATLAB/Simulink and Python for engineering analysis, simulation, and engine development.
- Experience with LabVIEW, Vision, Concerto, or similar embedded controls and calibration tools.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and internal combustion engine cycles.
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
- Strong systems engineering and diagnostic feature development experience.
