Overview

Signalink is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and prototyping of mission equipment for U.S. Department of Defense applications. The engineer will work as an integrated member of a combined Government and contractor engineering team supporting the development of a mission pallet proof-of-concept system.

This is a hands-on engineering position supporting the complete design and prototyping lifecycle, including concept development, detailed mechanical design, 3D modeling, technical data package development, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing support. The position requires full-time, on-site support at the Government's Prototype Integration Facility (PIF).

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for DoD systems, subsystems, assemblies, and equipment.
• Develop and evaluate design concepts based on system requirements, interfaces, operational constraints, and manufacturability.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
• Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs), including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and associated engineering documentation.
• Perform mechanical design and packaging of components, structures, mounting provisions, and related hardware.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and appropriate engineering drawing standards.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, integration, and manufacturing activities.
• Work directly with machinists, fabricators, technicians, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
• Evaluate prototype hardware and incorporate lessons learned and test results into subsequent design iterations.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and integrated product team activities.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and integration personnel.
• Support configuration management and documentation of design changes throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide responsive engineering support during prototype build and integration activities.

Required Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited institution; Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
• 3-6 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing mechanical designs for Department of Defense systems, platforms, or equipment.
• Experience performing detailed mechanical design using 3D CAD modeling software.
• Experience developing engineering drawings and supporting documentation suitable for fabrication and manufacturing.
• Experience supporting prototype development, fabrication, integration, or manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of engineering drawing practices, GD&T, configuration control, and technical data development.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Government/contractor engineering team.
• Ability to work full-time on-site at the Government facility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience supporting U.S. Army missile, missile defense, aviation, or other weapon system programs.
• Experience supporting engineering activities within an Army prototype development or integration environment.
• Experience developing complete Level III Technical Data Packages or equivalent production-level engineering documentation.
• Experience designing structures, equipment racks, mission pallets, mounting systems, or other mechanically integrated mission equipment.
• Familiarity with DoD and Army engineering, drawing, manufacturing, and configuration management requirements.
• Experience supporting rapid prototyping programs where designs progress quickly from concept through fabrication and integration.
• Experience working directly with manufacturing personnel to resolve producibility, fit, tolerance, and assembly issues.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a practical, hands-on mechanical engineer who is equally comfortable developing a 3D design at a workstation and working alongside technicians and manufacturing personnel to turn that design into prototype hardware. The successful candidate will be able to independently execute assigned design tasks while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced DoD prototyping environment.
