Wage Range: $100,000 - $125,000 + annual discretionary bonus

Job Summary

We are seeking a mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer, with career aspirations and both technical and demonstrated leadership skills for growth potential within the Engineering Department. The engineering position focuses on the creation of mechanical construction documents and works as a support function to other departments within MTech, and the candidate will be a technical leader within MTech.

Essential Job Function
  • Prepare construction documents for mechanical in-house design/build projects; including Conceptual Design; SD; DD and CD Phases of a project, in collaboration with MTech's PreConstruction and CAD Operations teams.
  • Assist the PreConstruction team with project pursuits, in the form of conceptual designs, one-lines, preliminary system selections and high-level energy analysis, code reviews, and support and attendance at project interviews.
  • Perform final check of all work issued to ensure high quality, seal and sign documents as required.
  • Take a lead role in the coordination with other trades on the project team; architects, general contractors, and other design disciplines; and ability to work collaboratively and present solutions
  • Evaluate design parameters and system solutions for projects that respond to both the technical and budget requirements of the project.
  • Prepare heating, ventilating and cooling load calculations; mechanical system sizing and equipment selections, and develop a working knowledge of codes and reference standards.
  • Involvement in all facets of a project, from conceptual design, design engineering, LEED analysis and documentation, construction observation, trouble-shooting, commissioning support, to project close-out.
  • Establish and manage engineering design budgets with Project Managers and PreConstruction teams in house.
  • Conduct building surveys to ascertain the installed condition as required for the design and construction of new work in existing buildings.
  • Works with other departments to provide technical expertise in a support role.
  • Acts as a technical leader for other engineers and designers within the department.
  • Attend meetings and participate in activities of local professional organizations such as ASHRAE and ASPE.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architectural or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain license required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of engineering experience required with skills in mechanical design / build projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at different levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment or independently, flexibility to adapt to changing needs/situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position takes place in a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time. The work environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are reasonable. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
