Mechanical Engineer - MEP/HVAC, Rail & Transit, Vehicle Systems | Woodbridge, NJ
Location: Woodbridge, NJ | Full-Time | On-Site
Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 + Benefits
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will deliver mechanical design and coordination support for MEP/building systems, rail and transit infrastructure, and vehicle systems work-producing drawings, calculations, specifications, and engineering deliverables for projects throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
• Support mechanical design across Facility/MEP, Railroad/Rail Transit, and Vehicle Engineering groups
• Design HVAC systems, including tunnel and station ventilation concepts where applicable
• Develop plumbing and drainage layouts for facilities and infrastructure projects
• Support fire protection and life-safety related mechanical system design coordination
• Contribute to mechanical systems in rail stations and vehicle maintenance facilities
• Support onboard rail vehicle mechanical systems (as assigned)
• Develop plans, specifications & estimates (PS&E) and support design packages through submission
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection/sizing, and layout development
• Create and revise design drawings/models using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and/or SolidWorks
• Support field surveys, site visits, and existing-conditions assessments
• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and client teams to resolve interfaces and deliver complete designs
• Apply applicable codes/standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME, ADA) and agency requirements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
• 2-5 years of mechanical design experience (MEP/HVAC, facilities, rail/transit, railroad systems, vehicle systems, or similar)
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design fundamentals
• Experience supporting (or strong interest in) rail/transit, railroad systems, MEP, and/or vehicle programs
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD/design tools (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and/or SolidWorks)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
• Willingness to travel for occasional site visits
• Valid U.S. driver's license and work authorization
Preferred Qualifications
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months
• Rail or transit project exposure (NJ Transit, Amtrak, MTA, etc.)
• Familiarity with tunnel ventilation, fire suppression, train wash systems, pressurization, and/or onboard vehicle systems
• Knowledge of public agency standards and transportation codes
