Full Job Description
MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team working in Lakehurst, NJ. This is an onsite position.

In this role, you will support critical naval aviation infrastructure by designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting complex mechanical systems to ensure fleet readiness and operational success.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, analyze, and optimize intricate mechanical components and assemblies for EMALS/AAG infrastructure.
  • Create and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications using industry-standard platforms such as CREO Parametric or AutoCAD.
  • Perform structural, thermal, fluid, and bolted-joint analyses to validate mechanical integrity under demanding constraints.
  • Troubleshoot heavy mechanical machinery, including large-scale motors, power generators, and high-pressure hydraulic systems.
  • Drive engineering investigations into component failures, determine root causes, and present actionable engineering solutions to program stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and execute system validation protocols at manufacturing plants, land-based test installations, and active naval vessels.
  • Respond to emergency shipboard technical requests, delivering hands-on troubleshooting and repair support under high-pressure, real-world constraints.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional mechanical design experience, ideally within the defense or aerospace sector.
  • Prior experience using CAD software such as ProE/CREO or AutoCAD alongside an understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience applying core engineering concepts professionally, including thermodynamics, materials science, fluid dynamics, and fatigue/fracture mechanics.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience with carrier launch/recovery machinery or similar high-energy electromagnetic systems.
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) framework.
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) methodologies.


Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess a current or active Secret security clearance.


Physical Requirements:
  • You must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • You will occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers.


The projected compensation range for this position is $77,200.00-$128,800.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
