Mechanical Engineer for its Virtual Training and Simulation (VTS) line of business. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. The selected candidate will support the Modeling, Simulation and Training team in
Orlando, FL, designing extremely sophisticated simulators that represent tactical vehicles. The VTS team designs and builds training systems for all branches of the miliary.
Primary Responsibilities:- Create and maintain Technical Data Package (TDP) artifacts, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Revise existing designs and develop new designs to enhance producibility and process efficiency.
- Collaborate within integrated product teams (IPTs) to support drawing updates and production efforts.
- Support production activities, including troubleshooting mechanical issues and assisting with corrective actions.
- Assist in dispositioning non-conformances and supporting root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Independently manage tasks and projects with guidance from senior engineers.
Basic Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution with 2+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in leiu of a degree.
- US Citizenship.
- Proficiency SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Experience working within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environments.
- Basic understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and configuration management processes.
- Experience supporting issue resolution in a production environment.
- Willingness to facilitate technical meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including design, peer, and tabletop reviews.
- Strong attention-to-detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:- Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret security clarence (in DISS).
- Experience supporting DoD programs
- Prior work in assembly, integration, and testing.
- Experience supporting rapid development, prototyping, or fast-paced engineering programs.
- Familiarity with ISO9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000 Technical Data Package (TDP) development.
- Understanding of cost, schedule, and programmatic impacts associated with engineering deliverables.
