The Korte Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in St. Louis, MO or Highland, IL. This position is responsible for supporting the design and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial and government design-build projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical professional looking to grow into a future Mechanical Design Manager role within a collaborative, nationwide design-build firm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead the design and coordination of mechanical systems for commercial and government construction projects from concept through construction.
- Develop mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and telecommunications designs for commercial construction projects.
- Prepare construction documents using Revit, Bluebeam, and other required design software.
- Coordinate mechanical and plumbing systems with architectural and structural disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
- Perform engineering calculations, equipment selections, and system layouts.
- Review project specifications, building codes, and applicable industry standards to ensure compliance.
- Assist with design development from conceptual planning through construction documents.
- Support preconstruction efforts by providing design input, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
- Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and provide technical support during construction.
- Assist in maintaining project schedules and deliverables.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Mechanical Design Engineers.
- Support business development and proposal efforts by providing technical expertise during project pursuits.
- Stay current on industry trends, building codes, and emerging technologies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Strong understanding of MEP building systems and commercial construction practices.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with BIM workflows is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary design-build environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Valid driver's license.
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE
Qualified applicants will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or related Engineering field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
- 3+ years' experience designing mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, healthcare, or government projects.
- Experience with Revit and BIM coordination required.
- Design-build experience is preferred.
