Job Summary

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Space Flight Instrumentation (LASP)

LASP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of mechanical systems for spaceflight instruments and mission proposals. The role focuses on solving complex engineering challenges, developing innovative mechanical designs, and supporting the full lifecycle of flight hardware from concept through integration and testing. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance space instrumentation for NASA and other space missions.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Generating opto-mechanical designs
  • Work on various types of space-based instrumentation
  • Modeling hardware in SolidWorks and using PDM Pro.
  • Using ANSYS Workbench to verify design solutions.
  • Creating drawings using Solidworks and applying GD&T to the drawing.
  • Interface with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Document interfaces and requirements.
  • Generate mechanical solutions for various proposal efforts.
  • Perform other mechanical engineering tasks including mass properties, harness routing, production planning, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Require

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least 10 years of experience.
  • Due to requirements governing access to export-controlled data and information, only U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), or other protected individuals (i.e., persons designated as an asylee, refugee, or temporary resident under amnesty provisions) are eligible for hire.

  • Experience creating mechanical drawings.
  • Designing and building opto-mechanical instruments
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Previous experience working on proposals a plus.
