Job Summary:

Mercury Systems Chantilly, VA location offers a great opportunity for a mechanical engineer with at least 4 years' experience to join a small, collaborative engineering team in an electronics production focused environment. If you thrive on continuous learning and are looking for the opportunity to make an impact by bringing a fresh perspective to complex design challenges, then consider applying for this role. You will have a hands-on opportunity to design, analyze, and test complex subsystem and rugged server designs, including multiple methods of cooling utilizing the latest technologies.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical engineering tasks related to electronic subsystem and server design with components based on open standards. Assignments include:
    • mechanical packaging design, printed wiring board layout and ECAD support, connector selection, label & cable design, test equipment, prototype inspection & assembly, environmental testing, and the documentation required to procure and assemble hardware
  • Collaborating with other disciplines including Hardware/Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement as part of your daily activities
  • Taking products from concept design all the way through integration, test, and production release
  • Conceptualization, design, development, analysis and documentation of mechanical hardware and/or systems for use in rugged military applications
  • Design of complex fixturing to support testing and advanced manufacturing techniques
  • Creation of complex models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
  • Communication of design concepts and document product to diverse audiences internal and external to Mercury
  • Supporting product verification testing such as thermal, airflow, vibration, mechanical shock, humidity, and environmental stress screening
  • Driving procurement of prototype material to verify form, fit, and function
  • Failure analysis of discrepant material in coordination with manufacturing and application engineering
  • Drafting Test plans and Inspection reports as part of verification and validation
  • Structuring Bills of Material (BOMs/PLs)
  • Drafting and managing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECOs)

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering or another related technical field
  • Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • An understanding of heat transfer and thermal management
  • General knowledge of both conventional manufacturing techniques and advanced manufacturing, such as additive manufacturing
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks
  • Familiarity with material control processes and documentation such as routers, work instructions, etc. and tools related to those functions (Agile, Oracle, EPDM, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Proficiency with standard documentation and presentation tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic multi-disciplinary environment
  • This position requires you to have or obtain a government security clearance in the future. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or another related technical field
  • Experience and understanding of Printed Wiring Board Assemblies design and processes
  • Experience and understanding of chassis and digital/fiber optic cable design
  • Experience presenting design and analysis at Prime subcontractor and Government milestone events (PDR/CDR/TRR)
  • Familiarity with ANSI/VITA Standards (46.0, 48.x, 66.x, 67.x)
  • Familiarity with GD&T
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and PDM tools
  • Experience with Test Execution and Documentation (Plans, Procedures, Reports)
