Full Job Description
Mechanical Engineer II

We9re seeking a Mechanical Engineer II who thrives at the intersection of innovation, precision, and production. In this role, you9ll help bring advanced battery systems from concept to reality-designing, validating, and optimizing solutions that are safe, scalable, and built to last. We are looking for someone with experience in designing multiple-component products that go to an end user.

What You9ll Do

As a Mechanical Engineer II, you9ll play a hands-on, high-impact role throughout the product lifecycle:

Design & Engineering
  • Lead the mechanical design of battery modules and enclosures with a focus on thermal management, structural integrity, and safety
  • Translate early concepts into robust, production-ready designs

Electromechanical Integration
  • Partner closely with Electrical Engineering to design busbars, wire harnesses, and PCB mounting solutions
  • Ensure proper creepage and clearance for high-voltage applications

Documentation & Standards
  • Create detailed blueprint drawings and technical specifications
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of peer designs to ensure accuracy and manufacturability
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to ensure proper fit and function

Analysis, Validation & Testing
  • Lead DFMEA sessions to proactively identify and mitigate risk
  • Develop and execute DVP&R plans
  • Oversee physical testing for vibration, thermal performance, ingress protection, and crash requirements

Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Develop comprehensive assembly documentation
  • Provide hands-on support on the manufacturing floor
  • Troubleshoot production challenges using 8D root-cause analysis

Leadership & Ownership
  • Serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers and designers
  • Help train team members on CAD best practices and SOPs
  • Act as Project Engineer for assigned product lines, coordinating with vendors and cross-functional teams (Electrical, Thermal, Software)

What You Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor9s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of professional mechanical design experience (must have actual design, not process, experience)
(Battery systems, automotive, power conversion, or aerospace experience strongly preferred)
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
(CSWA/CSWP or equivalent certification a plus)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Material selection (plastics, sheet metal, busbars)
    • Thermal interface materials
    • DFM/DFA best practices

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with lithium-based battery systems
  • Background in Formula SAE, Solar Car, or similar hands-on engineering competitions
  • A mindset that views challenges as opportunities to innovate and improve
