Overview

The Mechanical Engineer II position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group's quickly growing Philadelphia area team out of Conshohocken, PA. We are looking for an Engineer who enjoys client interaction as well as the technical aspects of the position. This individual needs to have an understanding of the technical aspects of mechanical design engineering including but not limited to HVAC, plant & process utilities, plumbing, and compressed gas systems design. The ability to successfully handle multiple real-time complex project and operational tasks as well as maintain a strong work ethic and drive to deliver for clients as a collaborative colleague are a must for this role. The Mechanical Engineer II will be mentored by the senior level and mid-level Mechanical Engineering team members and will assist with the development of design documents such as P&ID's, utility consumption summaries, plant & process utility distribution systems, pressurization plans, airflow diagrams, ductwork & piping plans, equipment/construction specifications, temperature & humidity control calculations, etc. Expect project work to include all levels of design: feasibility studies, conceptual & schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration. Project sizes will vary and will consist primarily of life science industry projects doing both existing building improvements and new construction.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assisting with generation of Data Sheets, Material Requisitions & Enquiry Packages for procurement of equipment
  • Assisting with generation of Technical Bid Tab Evaluation of vendors in compliance with Client specifications
  • Editing Technical Specifications in compliance with Client requirements
  • Development of each package through Kick-off meetings, Design Reviews, FAT's etc.
  • Interfacing with vendors and other disciplines ensuring the highest level of service is provided
  • Delivery of agreed design scope within budget hours and schedule

Typical areas of design include:
  • Assisting in the development of HVAC, plant and clean utility, plumbing, and compressed gas system designs.
  • Developing project documents (e.g. calculations, reports and construction drawings and specifications, etc.) for clients, according to regulatory and industry standards.
  • Coordination with other internal disciplines as well as external team members (e.g. vendors, clients, and contractors).
  • Code analysis and application related to the Mechanical, HVAC and Plumbing disciplines.
  • Researching mechanical / utility materials and methods as required.
  • Assisting with design development of project packages and coordinating with the design team at the direction of the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
  • Editing Mechanical / Utility equipment and construction specifications.
  • Developing temperature / humidity control calculations, airflow diagrams, pressurization plans and classification plans.
  • Equipment selections based on recommendations of Lead Mechanical Engineer and completion of equipment schedules.
  • Developing static pressure and pump head calculations where applicable.
  • Sizing and developing layouts for ductwork and piping plans.
  • Sizing and developing layouts for underground and above ground piping plans.
  • Sizing and developing layouts for compressed gas plans.
  • Assisting with development of the building management system (BMS) control philosophy, details, specifications and plans.
  • Developing P&ID's, equipment plans, plant / utility distribution plans, and system details.
  • Performing construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 + Years of design experience in a design firm setting (preferably in the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Cell & Gene Therapy sectors)
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Understanding of and ability to develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • FE registration and/or pursuing, or obtained, Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GMP Manufacturing environments is preferred
  • The ability to travel as needed for client and project development
