At a Glance

Focal Point has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Custom Development team! This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of Focal Point's engineering team, developing and supporting world-class luminaire designs. This position will lead the development of luminaires from concept to production, including prototyping, validation and regulatory testing, collaboration with manufacturing, and ordering system setup. Project management and organizational skills will be honed working on large scale projects with cross-functional teams to deliver on timeline and cost targets. This position reports to the Custom Engineering Development Leader.

Responsibilities

What Will You Do?

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Lead projects to develop products that meet or exceed customer requirements and product targets.
  • Influence, review, and provide input to your peer's designs, ensuring best practices are followed and lessons learned are incorporated in future projects.
  • Apply creative thinking and analysis to develop unique, innovative concepts.
  • Analyze risks and root out issues early in the design process, using various internal Focal Point resources, as needed.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and warranty teams as needed.
  • Assemble prototype designs, create installation spaces, and install test luminaires, when required.
  • Utilize a hands-on approach to product design, assembling prototype designs, creating demonstration spaces, and working closely with manufacturing.
  • Establish timeline commitments and coordinate communication updates to all areas of the business.
  • Maintain ownership of complete project deliverables, including design documentation, ordering system setup, production documentation, sales tools, cost model, etc.
  • Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development.

Requirements:
• 3-5 years of professional engineering work experience.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
• Experienced knowledge of 3D CAD software. SolidWorks preferred.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams through projects or organizations.

• Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 starting base plus bonus.
