Full Job Description
Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer (Exhaust) is responsible for management and execution of all phases of assigned projects from conceptualization through to release of finished product; including design, development, documentation, and commercial release. These products may consist of a range of automotive related products including (but not limited to) cat back exhaust systems mufflers, headers, x-pipes, and components, along with maintenance of existing products necessary to support and grow Holley's various exhaust brands. The position works with support engineers, designers and drafting personnel to generate new or prototype components, assemblies, and systems. They will conduct the necessary design calculations and establish design criteria for the product of concern and secure cost-effective manufacturing process solutions.

The Mechanical Engineer (Exhaust) oversees the fabrication of prototypes and conducts necessary testing to verify that the product meets or exceeds design specifications, prepares or supervises the preparation of documentation including collection and compilation of test results, bill of materials, design specifications, and other reports that relate to product attributes and function.

The Mechanical Engineer (Exhaust) supports product management and manufacturing during the pre-launch and launch phases of new projects throughout initial production and into initial commercial release.

Key Responsibilities:

Projects (60%)

  • Use CAD equipment and applications to work with R&D Shop Technicians, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to take conceptualized ideas and formalize them into designs, sketches, specifications and finalized engineering drawings of tooling and equipment.
  • Perform moderately complex design tasks requiring the operation and application of computer modeling software and electronic analysis and testing equipment and applications
  • Work with engineering technicians to test fit 3D printed components and elicit feedback concerning fit and function
  • Convert part files to .stl files and use in-house 3D printers to print prototype components
  • Advise and direct the creation of physical prototypes, master product components, and production assembly fixtures
  • Work with management personnel in establishing product or process specifications for specific tooling and equipment
  • Provide technical expertise on specific technical design problems related to existing or new products and processes
  • Conceptualize product design configurations with respect to cost effective manufacturing


Project Management (20%)

  • Develop and assure adherence to project planning and execution timelines for product development
  • Assist with coordinating the procurement and scheduling of test vehicles as required.
  • Prepare and maintain product development documentation data, schedules, and costs.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to devise the most economical way to produce products.
  • Direct and assist the testing of prototypes and document product qualification evaluations such as dyno, sound, and flow testing. Implements necessary design changes as required to ensure product integrity.
  • Prepare and furnish Manufacturing with assembly and test procedure or calibration requirements


Documentation (20%)

  • Provide well-documented and readable analysis and calculations performed during project work and manufacturing support. Subjects include but are not limited to stress analysis, sound testing, thermal dynamics, fatigue, flow etc.
  • Creates electronic and written reports on various aspects of projects in a timely fashion.
  • Provides engineering drawings and specifications to produce prototype parts.
  • Generate BOM, routings, attribute listings, application data, and other required documentation necessary to support new product release


Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Minimum of four (4) years of closely related job experience in product design of mass-produced components or assemblies. Automotive product design experience preferred

  • Significant skills utilizing SolidWorks CAD software is critical. Including 3D modeling, drawing creation, proper revision control, and PDM administration

  • Familiarity with tube routing, mandrel bending, audio frequency analysis, and airflow testing is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with automotive exhaust systems is a plus

  • Ability to accurately measure using precision tools such as 3D laser scanners, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and similar is necessary

  • Machining, welding, and fabricating skills are desirable
  • The ideal engineer will have "hands on" experience and automotive mechanical abilities

  • Hands-on engineering experience with strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must possess a valid unexpired driver's license
