If you're ready to travel, collaborate, and create high-impact engineering fixes, we want to meet you.

As part of our central engineering team, you will play a vital role in the assessment, design, and repair of damaged or impacted rail vehicles. This includes developing engineering documentation, creating repair procedures, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You'll collaborate closely with customers, field teams, and technical specialists to deliver safe, cost-effective solutions that keep trains running reliably.

This position reports to the Central Engineering Manager within Siemens Customer Services, Mobility.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Develop and document engineering solutions for accident repairs, including technical concepts, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Travel (up to 33%) to customer sites across the U.S. and Canada to perform damage assessments using laser scanning, photography, and hands-on inspection.
  • Create and validate custom repair instructions to restore vehicle integrity and support customer operations.
  • Work with multi-functional teams, including project managers, technicians, and materials teams, to implement repair strategies effectively.
  • Be current with industry trends to improve materials, methods, and technologies used in vehicle repair.
  • Support technical aspects of bids for maintenance and overhaul projects.
  • Ongoing project support and management of the technical approach and design.
  • Troubleshoot and advise with ongoing repairs.

To thrive in this role, you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with 3+ years of experience OR in lieu of degree 5+ years of equivalent experience in the rail industry will be considered.
  • Proven technical writing skills to create clear, accurate repair documentation.
  • Proficiency in weld callouts for structural repairs.
  • Knowledge of AWS standards for welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Setting you apart from others would be FEA understanding with familiarity with vehicle structural weldments and repair techniques. Proficiency in interpreting mechanical/electrical drawings, schematics, and system diagrams and experience using laser scanning metrology for 3D modeling and measurement would be a plus. Proficiency in CAD tools, particularly Creo Parametric and Creo View (or equivalent) would be great. Of course, experience in the rail or transportation industry would be amazing.
