Full Job Description
The Mechanical Designer participates in the project design and production as needed. This person exercises judgement on evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques and regulations in drawings and specs, solves problems when encountered and receives guidance on complex projects and tasks.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • State of Hawaii Professional Mechanical Engineer License preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the industry.
  • Knowledge of CAD and manual drafting principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Able to follow project CAD standards and procedures.
  • Able to modify existing drawings to minimize the need to create new drawings and create new drawings when necessary, in a timely fashion.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Prepare accurate detailed drawings from data supplied by field surveys, record drawings as-built drawings, mark-ups, worksheets, and design sketches.
  • Must be able to self-check own work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Operate computer using standard drafting software packages and plotters.
  • Principles and practices of technical report writing and data presentations.
  • Passed fundamentals of engineering exam preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, and Power Point), CAD software, and AutoCAD, REVIT.
  • Strong understanding of codes and regulations, engineering systems, and construction methods.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methods and process.
  • Strong understanding of contract types and ability to properly administer the contract obligations.
  • Able to develop project programs, initial design concepts, and establish project goals.
  • Client management.

  • Able to handle multiple tasks, projects, and schedules.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and gather information.
  • Work with CAD equipment and software creating, modifying, and finalizing mechanical engineering drawings for construction projects and design reports.
  • Work from drawings, sketches or scanned images, customer drawings, or government drawings or specifications.
  • Prepare final drawings, checking dimensions, consistency of information between drawings and for completeness.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, construction cost estimates and basis for design for HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Energy Management and Control Systems.
  • Draft finished designs from sketches.
  • Conform to the established filing system for production drawings.
  • Interpret specifications for city, state and Federal requirements as needed.
  • Prepare periodic project status reports.
  • Review contract requirements to understand deliverables under each phase.
  • Revise documents per markup by project lead and management.
  • Prepare submission packages per the contract requirements.
  • Provide marketing and technical support.
  • Present and speak for the department at meetings and conferences.
  • Site investigations.
  • Create project schedule to meet submittal dates.
  • Coordinate work activities with those of other departments and regulatory agencies.
  • Learn the principles, techniques, laws, methodology, and processes pertinent to mechanical engineering work.
  • Mentor junior level staff members.
  • Make field measurements and obtain design data.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and prepare opinions of probable construction costs.
  • Review and follow up on project financial health.
  • Other duties as assigned.


LOCATION: Honolulu, HI

SALARY RANGE: $83,500 - $100,000 per year depending on experience
