Overview
System One is hiring a Mechanical Designer. In this role, you will create structural and mechanical design solutions for test-related designs (e.g. test fixtures, test rigs, flow loops, sub-scale test articles, etc.), 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings for the conceptual and preliminary design development of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system.
Responsibilities
- Create structural and mechanical design solutions for test-related designs, including test fixtures, test rigs, flow loops, and sub-scale test articles
- Develop 3D CAD models and engineering drawings in compliance with ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards
- Produce robust CAD models to support rapid design iterations, leveraging advanced modeling techniques
- Maintain and develop complex mechanical designs, researching and proposing innovative solutions
- Conduct trade studies to evaluate and select optimal design options
- Create supporting technical presentations, documents, and reports as needed
- Perform tolerance stack-up calculations and review drawings for accuracy and compliance
- Ensure configuration control of models and drawings through product data and lifecycle management software
- Periodically review and improve generated design documents and standards
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on multiple tasks
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience checking fabrication drawings and applying design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
- Experience with mechanical and machine design, and using product data management (PDM) systems
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
- Relevant nuclear design experience and oversight of suppliers preferred
- Experience testing complex mechanical components in high-temperature, multi-disciplinary environments
- Proficient knowledge of nuclear fabrication, construction, and lifecycle management processes preferred
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration in a geographically diverse team
- High degree of trustworthiness and integrity
