Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to produce production drawing sets according to specifications.
  • Design components and assemblies for DI products, including generator enclosures and frame designs.
  • Create UL142-compliant diesel fuel tank designs including instrumentation placement.
  • Develop designs for switchgear frames and support structures.
  • Compile BOMs, schematics, and schedules for efficient installation of equipment.
  • Create CAD models to automate BOM generation in PDM software.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to implement design changes as per code requirements.
  • Participate in Product Development for new components and fitment considerations.
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable, reliable, and maintainable in the field.
  • Identify cost-reducing processes for manufacturing and installation of systems.

Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Mechanical Designer II provides mechanical design deliverables for our
manufactured microgrid product solutions at our Durham and Randleman, NC facilities. This position will assist the overall team to provide assurance that our products are being built per engineering specifications and other required standards (i.e. UL, NEC).

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):
  • Associates of Applied Science degree in Engineering Technology or other related fields preferred.
  • 5+ years of related experience producing mechanical design drawings for large machinery and welded assemblies.
  • Proficient with 3-D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard drafting and modeling principles.
  • Proficient with PDM environment workflows, preferably Autodesk Vault.
  • ERP experience preferred.
  • Detail oriented with positive attitude regarding work execution in a team
    environment.
  • Ability to critically analyze and solve problems independently and with a team.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Desire to learn and be coached in a dynamic work environment by senior team members and manager.
  • Ability to travel occasionally 1 to 3 times per year.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a cross functional team for the modeling and creation of
    production drawing sets of the mechanical systems per company or customer specifications.
  • Provide engineering/design support for components and assemblies of the DI products including:
  • Generator Enclosures: Cold-formed sheet metal parts, aluminum skinned stick built enclosures, sound attenuating features.
  • Frame design: Various steel welded frames, aluminum enclosure frames, engine and enclosure steel skid frames.
  • Fuel Tank Design: UL142 diesel fuel tank designs, including placement of
    nozzles, instrumentation, and other ancillary equipment.
  • Switchgear frames, bussing, breaker support structures, lug pads, and other ancillary features.
  • Develop document set; including BOM, schematics, schedules, and other
    drawing details that will ensure the safe and efficient installation of this
    equipment. Ensure drawings are as-built, documents and manuals are filed on the server for use in O&M development.
  • Develop CAD models to automatically drive complete BOMs in PDM software with proper product structures, assortments, and other metadata.
  • Interface with engineering team to execute design changes based on
    calculations and placement of equipment to meet code requirements.
  • Assist with Product Development initiatives including new component design, fitment, etc.
  • Support design for manufacturability, reliability, field maintainability.
  • Identify and execute processes that may reduce the overall cost to manufacture, install and operate our electrical infrastructure systems located on our generator and switchgear enclosure products

  • Occasional travel may be required for training or meetings.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate different time zones
    (Central/Eastern/Mountain/Pacific), if necessary.
  • Be flexible for after-hours tasks, as needed.
