Position Summary:

As a Mechanical Designer at FORTNA – LPS Projects, you will play a key role in supporting the design, development, and implementation of material handling systems. You will independently and collaboratively perform moderately complex design assignments and contribute to larger project teams. This role requires strong foundational knowledge in mechanical design, a growing understanding of automated systems, and the ability to operate as part of a project team working towards a common goal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create mechanical design drawings and layouts for conveyor and automation systems using AutoCAD, Inventor, and FORTNA’s proprietary 3D design tools.
  • Create fabrication, integration, installation, and permit drawings.
  • Participate in design reviews, assist with drawing QA/QC processes, and help prepare engineering documentation.
  • Conduct site visits to gather field dimensions and validate system requirements.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Communicate progress to engineering leads and document project updates and challenges.
  • Follow engineering standards and contribute ideas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering; OR an associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related field; OR a minimum of 2 years of directly relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor (or similar 3D design tool); experience with MS Office tools (Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with material handling systems and conveyor equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel (10–20%) for project support.

The base hourly range for this role is $31.78 to $47.69.  This base hourly range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base rate offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
