Position Summary:Schafer Industries is currently seeking a
Mechanical Designer III for its Schafer Driveline operation in
Fredericktown, Ohio.

Job Summary:The design engineer position is responsible for the engineering of products involving design and redesign in accordance with time schedules, quality parameters, customer needs, market needs and manufacturing capabilities.
Essential Functions:- Handles all aspects of design engineering work using Pro-E (Creo).
- Creates solid models and detail drawings using Pro-E Software for new designs, complex drawings, and drawing revisions.
- Communicates with customers in the form of quotations, meetings, and presentations to understand and define their needs.
- Understands and responds to customer requests, both verbal and written.
- Designs products to meet all requirements provided by Product/Application Engineers and customers.
- Creates and maintains bill of materials within the MRP system.
- Manages several projects at one time with little to no oversight.
- Assists drafting, the test lab, manufacturing, quality, and planning as required.
- Handles all changes and problems related to product(s) assigned for the entire product life cycle.
- Acts as technical design expert for the company for both internal and external customers.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Associate's degree and 10 or more years design experience.
- Technical ability to create designs from fresh sheet of paper.
- Project Management skills to handle multiple projects at once with communication to multiple stakeholders.
- Problem Solving/Analysis skills commensurate with 10 years of experience.
- Communication Proficiency to break down complex ideas for non-technical stakeholders.
- Customer/Client Focus to consistently deliver successful new products and revisions.
- Presentation Skills for external customers and Schafer leadership.
- Advanced understanding of axle functions and driveline components preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD modeling and 2D orthographic drafting practices including GD&T
Working ConditionsThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
