Mechanical Design Engineer

Lead I - Engineering Design

The Mechanical Design Engineer Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, qualification, and sustaining of mechanical systems and subsystems used in Semiconductor Capital Equipment.

The opportunity:
• Own the design, development, qualification, and sustainment of mechanical systems, modules, and subsystems for Semiconductor Capital Equipment throughout the product lifecycle.
• Drive technical decisions, architecture trade-offs, and innovative design solutions to meet performance, reliability, safety, cost, schedule, and DFX objectives.
• Lead onsite execution of NPI Programs, Alpha/Beta Builds, engineering validation, qualification, and production transition activities.
• Support system and subsystem integration activities, identify design gaps, troubleshoot build issues, and drive timely closure of technical issues.
• Collaborate with Design, Systems, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Engineering, and Test teams to resolve build, integration, reliability, and qualification challenges.
• Drive root cause investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, and engineering change implementation to improve product maturity and stability.

What you need:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• 7-10 years of experience in Mechanical Design, Product Development, and NPI Execution within the Semiconductor Equipment Industry.
• Strong proficiency in NX, Creo, and PLM tools such as Teamcenter and/or Windchill.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation practices.
• Experience with complete product development lifecycle including design, integration, build support, validation, qualification, and sustaining engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas such as Vacuum Chamber Design, Precision Mechanism Design, Frame Design, Electronics Packaging, or other critical semiconductor equipment modules.
• Experience supporting onsite equipment builds, subsystem integration, issue resolution, and qualification activities.
• Familiarity with SEMI S2 and SEMI S8 requirements and their impact on equipment design.
• Strong communication, presentation, articulation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to proactively identify and escalate risks, influence decisions, and drive technical discussions across global cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex engineering challenges and drive technical solutions with minimal supervision.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with semiconductor equipment platforms and product development processes.
• Hands-on experience supporting Alpha Builds, Beta Builds, Qualification Testing, Factory Integration, Customer Installation, and Product Transfer activities.
• Experience with equipment troubleshooting root cause analysis, field issue resolution, and reliability improvement programs.
• Experience with DFMEA, RCCA, 8D, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Experience leveraging AI-Powered Engineering and Productivity Tools to improve design efficiency, troubleshooting, data analysis, documentation, and engineering decision-making.

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Texas

Compensation Range: $87,000-$131,000

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) program with employer matching.
