About the role: As a Mechanical Designer/CAD Engineer at Treeswift, you'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and real-world field deployment, building the CAD models in OnShape to realize the hardware that we manufacture in house. You'll work alongside the Head of Hardware and Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the full arc from prototyping to production, working closely with our field operations, software, and robotics teams to ensure our products perform where it counts most. This is a high-impact role at a company moving fast, where your work will directly shape how some of the largest utilities in the country manage their infrastructure. You will report directly to our Head of Hardware.
What You'll Do:- Build and manage our CAD files in OnShape. We realize it is a relatively new software, but ideally you are just like us and bring many years of professional experience using SolidWorks or CREO
- Bring innovative ideas and rapid execution to how we build. We take full advantage of the new age of fast small volume manufacturing and exploit that to our advantage.
- Own and improve CAD hygiene and update revs
- Apply your experience with commercial products you've taken to market to inform DFM
- Raise the bar for how the engineering team collaborates on rapid development, and ensure we get to production smoothly
Experience / Skills: - You have a proven track record of taking physical products to market in a commercial setting, not just research or academic contexts
- You have hands-on experience with physical prototypes. Not just 3D prints but comfortable with traditional hand prototyping if needed.
- You are proficient in Solid and Surface modeling
- You have built and maintained medium to large scale CAD models and BOM's
- You communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams and thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
- A degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
Nice to haves:- Experience and proficiency in OnShape
- Familiarity with production methods and material science. You know what we know by hands on experience, not a bookworm academic
- Prior experience at an early-stage startup where you've had to build and iterate quickly with limited resources
- Even though this role's primary function is CAD, you are naturally curious and can jump in with us to solve design and engineering challenges. Sit with a cup of coffee alongside us and bounce ideas back and forth.
What We Value- Mission first. We value team members who are focused on working towards the best outcomes for the customer and the business.
- Curiosity. We are constantly learning - from each other and from our customers.. We aren't afraid to learn we were wrong in the process and adapt our approach accordingly.
- Owners mindset. If you see an opportunity for improvement, run with it. We believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, no matter your role.
Benefits- Competitive salary and equity package
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your eligible dependents
- Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage
- 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave to support all new parents
- Flexible, unlimited paid time off
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
- Free OneMedical membership
- Commuter benefits
- Snacks, goodies, and team lunches provided twice a week to keep you fueled and connected with your colleagues.
